I bought a used Mel9 on Reverb.com. It seems to work fine with guitar. The instructions said you can also use it with keyboards, so I tried plugging in mine. But even with the dry knob all the way down (CCW) and the Effect knob all the way up (CW), the keyboard is very loud and you can barely hear the effect. So I find it unusable with a keyboard. Is that typical for the Mel9, or did I buy a defective unit?
I think I figured it out. I had my keyboard volume almost all the way up. I turned the keyboard volume all the way down to its minimum, and now I hear mostly the effect. Only if I hit the piano keys hard to I hear the dry sound.
That makes sense, since a line level coming out of a keyboard is a much higher level than a guitar signal.
Sorry it was designed for guitar NOT for keyboards and I personally do not recommend it.
I wish it was never mentioned by marketing.
To use with a keyboard you need to play no more than 4 or 5 notes at one, stay with in the range of a guitar and play using a sound like a guitar.
Also close voicing does not work well on keyboards.
