I’ve been using my Mel9 extensively and when I use #1 it’s the most pronounced, but often when I hit a note I hear a clicking/popping/record pop kind of sound so much so that I can’t actually record with it while it’s the only sound in that space.
I’m using a rackmount voltage regulator, rack power conditioner, ISP Decimator rack noise reducer, and isolated power for the Mel9. I’ve tried using different cables. Same problem. I’ve tried multiple guitars with different kinds of pickups: same problem. And when I run it through any other signal without the Mel9 it’s absolutely pristine sound.
My question is this: is this popping characteristic of the Mel9? I don’t hear it in any of the Youtube videos.
Should I replace it?
July 5, 2019 at 5:40 pm #125354EHX STAFFKeymasterNo that should not do that. It Sounds like a digital ground loop.
Please try the pedal with the EHX supply and just the Mel9 away from other pedals to narrow it down.July 5, 2019 at 5:41 pm #125355EHX STAFFKeymasterAlso if you can record it so we can hear it even better!
July 6, 2019 at 11:42 pm #125360ievolvedMemberHi there,
Thanks for the reply. I tried again with EHX 9v adapter. Still clicks. Signal chain is Guitar -> Me9 -> AFX-III effects bypass into -> Studio Pro 4 for recording.
Here’s a soundcloud recording of random playing. You can clearly hear the popping sounds it makes every now and again.
SoundCloud – Mel9 Clicking Sounds
Also, the pedal is configured as such:
Dry: all the way down (off)
Effect: 4 O’clock
Attack: all the way down (off)
Susttain: 9 O’clock
Output cable: Effect out only
Instrument: #1 OrchestraGuitar: Seymour Duncan double coil pickups bridge position
July 8, 2019 at 2:59 pm #125363EHX STAFFKeymasterThanks for that clip. It definitely is not a ground loop issue.
It sounds like its clipping somewhere in the chain. ALSO there is an od modulation in the first 1/2 of the video.
Is that from the pedal?July 8, 2019 at 5:38 pm #125364ievolvedMemberQuote:Thanks for that clip. It definitely is not a ground loop issue.

Is that from the pedal?I don’t know what modulation you’re referring to. To me, it just sounds like the pedal. But the Mel9 is the only effect in the chain. The Axe FX is only on bypass (passing the raw signal through without coloring it). Also, this same sound happens when I monitor through the AFX directly and don’t pass it through to the computer. In that case, it’s Guitar -> Mel9 -> AxeFX on Bypass -> Monitoring headphones. As for guitar, I’ve tried many different guitars. Same thing.
July 9, 2019 at 12:25 pm #125367EHX STAFFKeymasterCan you try it with out the Axe Fx to see if that is causing the clipping.
I looked at your signal and you can clearly see it clipping.
It also seems you are playing very hard.
If it still is please contact the service techs at info@ehx.com.Attached you can see the clipping.
July 9, 2019 at 7:13 pm #125374ievolvedMemberThanks for trying to help with this. I’ll just return it. Clearly, this isn’t normal so I’ll try with another unit.
Also, the modulation you asked about, might be because I’m going too fast? I’m using this pattern:
Code:——————-
——————-
——————-
-5-5-5-12-11——
-7-7-7-10-9——-
–0-0-0———– repeat w/palm muted 0’sThanks for helping.
July 9, 2019 at 7:16 pm #125379ievolvedMemberQuestion, what software did you use to analyze the signal like that?
