I’ve been looking to buy a tube amp, one that i can get a sound similar to John Frusciante. and he uses a marshall silver jubilee, but i’m not sure if he uses the 25/50 or the 25/55 because i’ve read on some websites that he uses a 25/50 and on others that he uses a 25/55. so does anyone know which one he uses and if theres a difference between them?
November 12, 2009 at 5:01 am #103683electro-melxModeratorThe Jubilee amps were called 25/50 because they were made to celibrate Jim Marshall’s 50th year in music and 25 years in amp manufacture in 1987.
to be honest I don’t know anything about a 25/55 model, if you do a google picture search for ‘marshall 25/50’ you get loads of results, if you do one for ‘marshall 25/55’ you get 2 results (both the same site, both commenting on John Frusciante’s gear) ….. I think it might a mistake.

ha, that brilliant (although, I’ve just ruined it by posting this)
November 12, 2009 at 8:25 am #103688electro-melxModeratorbtw Bluesteel, I’m pretty sure those amps were just fancy JCM800’s so you could probably get the same kind of sound from one of those.

Also, John Frusciante uses the 1960 cabs, but does anyone know the 2×12 equivalent to them, or ones similar?
November 13, 2009 at 12:58 am #103702electro-melxModeratoryeah, the ‘1936’ is the standard full sized 2×12 cab for a head.
it would look like this.
November 13, 2009 at 2:42 am #103706BlueSteelParticipantmmkay, i was thinking either that or the mc212, but i’ve read a lot of reviews that say it isnt very good, and sounds bad.

I’d go for the oldest most battered cheapest 1936 I could find over a new MC myself.
