I’ve been looking to buy a tube amp, one that i can get a sound similar to John Frusciante. and he uses a marshall silver jubilee, but i’m not sure if he uses the 25/50 or the 25/55 because i’ve read on some websites that he uses a 25/50 and on others that he uses a 25/55. so does anyone know which one he uses and if theres a difference between them?

The Jubilee amps were called 25/50 because they were made to celibrate Jim Marshall’s 50th year in music and 25 years in amp manufacture in 1987.

to be honest I don’t know anything about a 25/55 model, if you do a google picture search for ‘marshall 25/50’ you get loads of results, if you do one for ‘marshall 25/55’ you get 2 results (both the same site, both commenting on John Frusciante’s gear) ….. I think it might a mistake.

btw Bluesteel, I’m pretty sure those amps were just fancy JCM800’s so you could probably get the same kind of sound from one of those.

mmkay, thanks electro-melx. i’ve done a little more research and i’m sure that he does use the 25/50 because most sites have that on it.

The only problem is that i want just the head, because i want a 2×12. i don’t need a 4×12 because i’m not really in a band or anything. Also, John Frusciante uses the 1960 cabs, but does anyone know the 2×12 equivalent to them, or ones similar?

yeah, the ‘1936’ is the standard full sized 2×12 cab for a head.

    it would look like this.

mmkay, i was thinking either that or the mc212, but i’ve read a lot of reviews that say it isnt very good, and sounds bad.

Well the MC range are Marshall’s ‘entry level’ cabs, I’m sure they aren’t that bad but they have much cheaper speakers in them than the standard range. I’d go for the oldest most battered cheapest 1936 I could find over a new MC myself.

Anyone had a look at the MA Series yet? Considering an affordable Marshal valve combo (MA50c or Haze40)
