    yo question guys,

I am writing a song anyd i have this simple arpeggiated line similar to ‘no surprises’ by radiohead (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUgMbKJu9ws) but i wanna put a unique tonal spin on the notes. i was wondering, does anyone have any suggestions to make a melody sound a little different or twisted without resorting to the usual whammy pedal/octave tricks or resorting to putting on a simple flange, vibrato, or whatever garden-variety effect? i was thinking some elaborate or just cool delay tricks (something at least a little unorthodox or creative, regardless of if its simple or not) or just some really cool pedal effect that kinda bends ur ear a little bit but isnt overbearing..but its gotta be interesting like someone hears it and is what ‘oh what is that, thats kinda sweet’..you know, just something that makes it a little more interesting sound-wise but nothing over the top. does anyone have any EHX gear that can help me out? I’ve been watching the Effectology demos like crazy and am really inspired to delve into EHX stuff.

i dunno if thats a big order but im just really getting effects and want to experiment a lot. thank you so much everyone!

    Hi John,
    Glad you dig the show.

For a line or riff like that i would use a modulation effect like a Poly Chorus or the Worm.
A little vibrato or waver would sound great with out killing the riff.
just enough to make it interesting.
    We call it ear candy!

The Poly Chorus can also go over the top for other things so it even more versatile.
    I would go Poly Chorus.

    Good luck.

Hrmmm…interesting! I might go out and get that today! I have a question though, I was also thinking a really cool delay trick might work as well. Do you have any suggestions for something like that? Like interesting ways to use delay that isn’t exactly the most cliche? Just to make the line come to life more…it can range from subtle to over the top, i dont exactly care as long as its tasteful, im just interested in using delay in a cool way.

    thank you again!!
