I’ve had tone success running a modeling device into the .44 mag. Look at my previous post.
For some reason it works.
I normally play through a Vox AC-30 and a Boogie MarkIV.
I used to run a POD into a Magnum 44, but the sound of the Magnum is so damn dark… even after maxing out the Pod’s treble and setting the Magnum to “bright” mode, still had to put an EQ pedal in between them for extra treble and hi-mid. If running in stereo, you’d need obv need two EQ pedals, and all of a sudden this is no longer such a simple (or cheap) (or small) rig and you have to question the whole setup!! Not to mention the fact that you’d need at least three separate power supplies.
Also the Magnum breaks up at rather low volumes. I think this is by design, but by the time you’re at a reasonable level for a full band rehearsal, you’ve already got quite a crunch on your “clean” tone. So… there’s very little headroom considering it’s supposed to be a 44W amp. Probably comparable to a 5W valve amp.
One useful purpose could be as a backup amp.. something to keep in your gig bag in case your main amp breaks down?
WE need a CLEAN amp like the 44. We have hundreds of pedals for distortion. We need an amp with gigable CLEAN power.
