Hi, I’m a new here so I don’t know if this has been talked about before. I bought a Little Big Muff (Made in NYC, not sure if that matters or not) and all of a sudden the standard hum when im not touching my guitar became really loud. If I touch the pedal with my hand and touching the guitar, the hum quiets down a LOT but the distortion and sound sounds normal. I’ve tried the same with another guitar and its the same. Do I have a grounding problem with the pedal?

Just having the pedal in the chain makes it hum. It’s worse when the effect is off. The only way I can get it to stop is to touch it with bare skin. This is with any knob in any position.

Only using a 9v. I haven’t tried it on AC yet. I have a BOSS PSA 120S
April 12, 2011 at 7:26 pm #114999TheGhostMachinaMemberSounds like it may be a faulty unit. Neither my LBM, BMwTW, or V4 BMP make any noise when not engaged. Can you take it back to where you bought it for an exchange?

That explains it perfectly. Going to try the fix tonight. Most probably got the V1. I guess it was NOS when I bought it.
April 14, 2011 at 1:24 pm #115019skywizardMemberGood news, did a cheap fix for the time being. I added a metal washer borrowed from a BOSS pedal to both the input and output jacks. Fixed the problem 100%.
I will eventually open her up and jump a wire from the volume pot to the input jack ground. But it works for now.April 18, 2011 at 9:42 pm #115043Ned FlandersModeratorIts true, the LBMs with backwards controls don’t have the case grounded. An easy and permanent solution is to solder a wire from the ground lug on the Jack (the one closest to the edge of the case) and then loosen the footswitch and wrap the wire around it, the thread underneath, a few times so the wire is squashed between the switch and case on the inside. Then tighten the switch again.
Permanent Kludge, I mean, Fix!The reason I didn’t solder to one of the pots is that these pots are weak and known to break from overheating, or any heating really.
