im reelly interested in the memory toy, i have a DMM and really want to get another one to add to the sound of my delay. ive thought about getting another DMM but its a lot of money and for what i need, the toy seems to fit in perfect, and ive watched loads of video’s with that and the boy but the boy sounds shit, and the toy sounds awesome.
and its cheap, analogue and EHX so what more could you want !!!!!

Yes. And I have one, and I bought it knowing it, and it’s brilliant.

I meant the #1.

I currently have a Line6 Echo Park, but I’m thinking I’ll leave it only for studio recording (“Analog” ping-pong delay is fucking delicious) and am looking for a nice analog delay. Too bad the Memory toy has such a short delay time
May 21, 2010 at 2:39 am #107947CryabetesParticipantwhat are you expecting out of an analog delay? the most you’ll really be able to get is 1000ms and that’s with a moogerfooger 104 or an Ibanez/Maxon AD999….
January 4, 2011 at 8:04 am #113489FluffChopMemberI found the Memory Toy had a loose board inside that made it not work. I had to push the circuit board into the other board. Then the reason I got rid of it was because there was a dramatic volume difference between bypassed and effected signal levels. I didn’t really like the mix control going from full dry to full wet. I use an MXR Carbon Copy which doesn’t have the volume discrepancy. Also with the mix control up full it’s a 50/50 mix. Why that matters is that you have more control over setting it to say only a 20% mix level. The Memory Toy is at 50/50 at half way up. If you never use more than 50/50 which I imagine is 99.99% of the population then you basically have a pedal with half the sensitivity on the mix control.

Bucket brigade delays are analouge and are generally grainy at longer delay times, abit noisy and lacking in high end. Digital delays are bright, clear and generally have much longer delay times.
If neither are what ye seek. Be aware that the Pink Floyds and such often used tape delays, which don’t involve either of those technology. Merely 2 tape heads a fixed distance apart – commonly used for the country “slapback” echo.
But yeah. Calling something very digital is silly. It’s like calling something very MP3 or very 2 inch tape. Either can sound good if done right or sound dreadful if done badly.

*with the noted exception of the DOD DFX9/91/94/98, which got progressively more bitcrushed as delay times got longer.
but yeah.
May 29, 2012 at 8:26 am #117640andros77ParticipantI have it since 1 year and it’s a great delay, very warm and clean.
did somebody experienced problems with the modulation?
I found this vid:

September 16, 2012 at 2:47 pm #117348Royal8MemberI, too, found the MOD effect on the Memory Toy unusable in stock factory form, but was able to open the back, find the MOD adjust trimmer and reduce the modulation to a more subtle setting. I like it a lot now.
Also, I own the #1 Echo and just wanted to say that that this is a great digital delay. I don’t feel that EHX tried to trick anyone into thinking that it was an analog unit, as it says clearly on the front of the case “Digital Delay”.
JMHO

April 29, 2013 at 3:08 pm #118981StubbornBardMemberI own one and I love the little thing. Sounds great to my ears. My only other delay pedal I’ve owned was a Line 6.
May 22, 2013 at 8:08 am #119083uglylittlebunnyMemberQuote:I tried both the Memory Toy and Memory Boy in Digital Village last weekend. The Boy had more modulation options all of which were quirky and essentially unusable except for making extreme noises. I am a musician and require something that is musical in nature. The Toy’s modulation was also extreme to the point of being unusable. Why would you in a real live situation want a pitch shift up and down a semitone? – OK for experimenting with silly noises at home – but I grew out of that when I was 20 odd, now I play classic rock and blues, and neither of these pedals modulation would be of use in the real world.
The delay however was something else. Totally musical and warm. I have played with digital delays for the last 25 years and can’t believe what I was missing out on. Ultimately my decision was made based on the delay section of both. The Memory Toy had a much longer delay time than the Memory Boy and was cheaper. It was as though costs had been cut on the delay section of the memory boy to make way for all the modulation options, the extra controls, inputs and the inclusive power supply.
So I bought the Toy. It was a far superior pedal for the money. I later discovered that there is a trim pot inside that can be adjusted to mellow out the modulation amount. Now it is so subtle it is barely noticeable – just enough to sound like the natural flutter of a tape echo.
Perfect.
Oh yea, dude; you gotta pop the back off and adjust the mod trim pot; once you do you will LOVE the mod and fall in love with your memory toy all over again. Cause yea; out of the box the mod is unusable. This is what has prevented me from getting most of their other pedals. I think the only other one I would enjoy is the neo clone (or small clone if I want to deal with the power source).
So yea, to answer the OP’s question – I think you may just be the only one disappointed in your memory toy
May 23, 2013 at 10:27 am #119087diegoartsMemberYeah, i also love the Toy, but!
… you really have to use the EHX power supply imho. i tried a one spot and it really didn’t sound the same.
with the original power supply from EHX i got more and louder repeats, and a overall clearer sound.
so now i am quite glad with it
anyhow i still prefer a malekko ekko for a small pedalboard analoge delay. but that’s another unit and a little bigger and more expensive.
