Hey!
Considering the influx of performance loopers and high end, fancy pants, muckity muck loopers with built in effects and drum machines, I think that EHX could find a serious following in a small looper. Both Boss and Digitech are fitting drum machines and other fancy things in their stompbox sized loopers, but I, personally, don’t need all of that. I just need a basic looper.
Here is my idea:
Nano sized chassis. One stomp button and a dial. Press once for record, again for play, and again for overdub. Press twice for stop, press and hold for erasure of the previous loop. The knob would be for playback volume. Maybe like 20 seconds of record time and unlimited overdub.
Anyway, that’s my dream looper right there. Something super small and super compact, and super SIMPLE!

In my experience, as I am a violinist not a guitarist, people “oh, wow” when they see me tapping a drum beat on the bridge and playing it like a mandolin or guitar and then doing crazy stuff over that.
I also thought that it would be cool, and EHX-like, to put a switch on it that would offer modulation or a lo-fi type of setting. That would be rad for some songs.
I really just think that EHX should get deeper into looping. It’s such a huge area now in music.

It’s the once pedal I like from them mostly due to the switching, which you have to rely more than most pedals if you overdub live a lot. Don’t mind the clicks on EHX pedals on anything else, but there’s a lot of nuance with a looper in a live setting that the EHX looper footpedal seems like it would disturb.

April 29, 2011 at 5:30 am #115116LanardMemberI’d like to see a small looper pedal with the SMM Hazarai looping functions in a nano enclosure. However, use a footswitch that is more touch sensitive than the SMM/H’s for easier loops. Two knobs at the top of the pedal would be the Hazarai’s Blend and Repeats (Attenuation) knobs. In the middle of the pedal have the Filter knob for changing the tone of the loop. Add an LED that signals the start of the loop, and have two outputs — one that channels the loop to a separate amp if you use two amps. I would probably buy two.

July 21, 2011 at 8:40 pm #107900echobaseoneMemberI loved almost everything about the 2880 except for the footswitches. The “soft touch” switches on the Boss Loopstation seem to work much better for (my) timing. The clarity of the 2880 was stunning, but a lot of the extras went unused.
I’d love to see an EHX take on a smaller more performance based stereo looper. No modulation required, but an effects loop could be pretty cool for such things.July 22, 2011 at 12:52 pm #106713CryabetesParticipantas a bare-foot player, i’d have really loved softer and much less painful footswitches when i was using the fs controller for the 2880. as it is, i’ve switched to running it with one hand on my synth rig.
July 27, 2011 at 12:58 am #104246cheesedude5050ParticipantI’d love a basic, 20-40 second looper. since i don’t want to get a delay with a built in looper, my only options are big $200 3 hour preset blahbadiblah fancy loopers. i’d love a deluxe freeze, with a built in phrase looper. it could be an XO. that guy would sell like hot cakes.

Just get a delay with a looper. you don’t have to use the delay if you don’t want to, no one is making you do it.
July 27, 2011 at 9:41 pm #103325Folkstone57MemberI think that the best thing would be to add the looping feature to a pre-existing pedal, like the SMM. Obviously, it’s already there, but it is rather limited, especially since it’s so short a looping time & there’s the problem with the glitch on the repeat. Adding a looper to the HOG would be fantastic as well. Of course, having MIDI clock available to sync any EHX pedal looper would be fantastic as well, but 2880 already fills that role.

I want to save some money. I’m trying to pickup a used DMM on ebay, which is going to cost me, and don’t want to spend $150 on a delay with a looper in it. It’s not that i’m shunning the idea of a delay with a looper in it, it’s just that the delay i want to get doesn’t have a looper in it. once i have my main pedal board set up, i’ll probably get a SMMwH. but untill then, a standard phrase looper would be awesome.
