I have a solid body electric violin, a 5 and a 7 string. Among other things, including sounding like a violin once in a while, I want to sound like an organ, a sax, a trombone, and as many other wind, horn, or reeds, as well as electric guitar. But my biggest current hankering is organ, sax, and trombone. I am eyeing the Microsynth. Will that get me close, do you think?
I do not know any of the terminology, nor what makes a sound a sound. Well, I do understand the difference between a pick attack and a bow, but that’s about it.
Thank you for any suggestions. I’m hooked on watching all the clips of sounds. I just realize with a bow it is different for me.

The Micro Synth “might” put you in Sax territory but you really should try one out before you buy.

I noticed some are called by different winds, horns, and reed names. So I can sound like a Hammond’s version of those instruments.
The HOG would knock out some other pedal purchases for a while, though.
I play in a rock band and would like to do horn section riffs and swells. String and orchestral swells get gimmicky and old quick.
Other than convenience, do I have to get the foot controller right away?
October 25, 2010 at 9:04 pm #112168dsl1MemberI have a Hog & I’ve never needed the Foot Controller but I’ve never needed to save patches. If you’re planning on using more than one patch live – it might not be a bad idea. It would take some time to set up different settings live.

October 4, 2015 at 3:55 pm #120925EZEaracheMemberI have a micro synth that I am using for violin. I haven’t gotten it found like a sax. Actually I haven’t gotten it to sound like much of anything except garbage on violin. I’ve also been using it on my electric guitar and it sounds AMAZING on that instrument. Therefore, I’m certain the pedal is working correctly.
When I work on my sounds I put everything through a looper so I can really hear what is going through the amp minus the sound of the violin right in my ear. It’s very helpful to sound sculpt this way on violin.
When you play the microsynth Argo (with a bow) a lot of the time the notes you’re playing just completely cut out.
If you play Pitzecato there isn’t enough sustain on the strings to produce much of a sound. In this case it just kind of makes flumping autowahish noises, which are kind of cool. However, the sounds I’m able to pull out of the micro synth are fairly limited compared to what I get out of the guitar.
I haven’t had the courage to take the back plate off and adjust the gain control yet as described in the user manual, but hopefully that makes a difference once I do.
Otherwise I guess I’m going to try and sell it on EBay or Reverb.com because I don’t gig on guitar enough to justify the amount of space it’s taking up on my pedal board, and it’s too expensive a piece of gear not to use it.
