Hello. Hoping to get a definitive answer on this a as I’ve seen conflicting information.
I completely understand the differences between instrument, line, and speaker levels, and that the speaker output of pedal amps like the Howitzer should not be connected to things like audio interfaces.
I’m wondering whether or not the Howitzer can be used as a preamp only with the line level send connected to an audio interface and no speaker connected at all?
I know from personal experience and teenage mistakes that tube amps should not be run without a speaker, but my understanding was that solid state amps are generally ok with this. However, I also saw a couple of posts elsewhere on the forums suggesting that doing so (intentionally or accidentally) killed their Magnum amp pedal.
Hello,
You can use the Howitzer as you described as just a preamp. The important thing is to not connect a speaker load while it’s powered up. Only do that when power is disconnected.
