I have a broken mode selector switch on my Holy Grail Nano. I found a replacement switch from NKK Products, that will solder right into the same position on the PCB. The switch is a DPDT 3 way, but my question is regarding the function type. In the 3 positions, is the switch designed to be ON-OFF-ON, ON-NONE-ON, or ON-ON-ON. I could make a guess with only a 33% chance of success. My gut says ON-ON-ON to select between Spring, Hall, or Flerb circuits… Anyone know the correct answer? Customer service recommended to seek help on the forum… I am attempting to attach a graphic of the NKK switch.
Much appreciated!
April 24, 2013 at 5:49 pm #118960goondoutMemberBump thread. Hoping for a technical administrator to find the answer on this question… Which of the three types of mini toggle switches (listed below) comes stock in the Nano Holy Grail? The switch is a 6 pin PCB mount and soldered directly to the circuit board…
1. On-Off-On ?
2. On-None-On ?
3. On-On-On ?Very much appreciated
February 14, 2014 at 2:25 am #119692toddwpMemberbump because i got this same issue and the same question. What configuration is that 6 pin switch?
February 16, 2014 at 6:09 pm #119697goondoutMemberI ended up calling customer service and they were terrific. The technical team was sympathetic to the switch problem and sent me a replacement. The new switch was upgraded to a smooth barrel (eliminating the need for an external nut). The smooth barrel is a perfect fit to the case hole and will not “pull” on the solder joints, nor be as susceptible to damage during operation. They treated me very kindly – I was totally impressed and appreciative.
I de-soldered / removed the old switch, and installed the new one. Took about 1/2 hour. I totally forgot to test the switch and see which type it was… If you still need to know – go ahead and remove the switch; hopefully you can test it out of the board (even though it is defective). You will need to remove it anyway…
A few words of caution – removing the circuit assembly is tricky, just be careful not to break the 9v power jack. Also, be very careful not to allow heat or solder to migrate onto nearby traces – there is a chip resistor nearby who’s solder joints will soften if you are not careful. Be very precise and stay directly on the switch pins as you remove / install solder. You will be good as new. Good luck!February 16, 2014 at 6:14 pm #119698goondoutMemberview from the outside – the smooth barrel switch
February 16, 2014 at 11:43 pm #119699toddwpMemberCool thanks for the info. Unfortunately my buddy’s switch is totally gone – when he opened up the enclosure it was literally in pieces with the connectors loose and rattling around inside. We may end up doin some trial and error work or just call ehx.
March 4, 2014 at 1:08 am #119740toddwpMemberThis switch is a DPDT switch in on-off-on configuration. I actually mounted it off-PCB (in the side of the enclosure and used a 3PDT on-off-on toggle, and used the third point to add a new LED that changed based on the reverb mode.
April 1, 2014 at 9:15 pm #119828lomaxMemberhi, I bought few weeks ago an holy grail nano.
its switch does not work properly anymore and I don t know how it is possible. It seems that I have only one rev effect available and the movements of the switch are not fluent giving the classic “click” to show clearly which of the 3 rev is active. what to do? how to change the switch in case ? where to buy it?April 1, 2014 at 9:51 pm #119829toddwpMemberSounds like the switch has failed. If the switch fails, the only reverb setting that will work is Hall. If you can return it to the place you bought it, that would be much simpler than trying to fix it. It is possible to get a replacement switch put in. I attempted a repair on my buddy’s Holy Grail Nano which had the exact same issue, but I didn’t have the exact switch on hand, so i just used a regular mini switch. Had to mount it in the side of the enclosure, and I used the hole left by the original switch to install a new 3-way LED that glowed red, blue, or green based on the reverb mode selected. It was actually quite cool. But it was a pretty tight fit — possibly too tight — and something later happened that shorted out a component. Now it doesn’t work at all (no effect signal…. the reverb knob just reduces the dry volume as you turn it right until at full right the pedal is silent). Long way to say… hold out for the right switch. If you can’t return the pedal, and don’t have a repair guy near you, I can swap that switch out for ya. (With an exact replacement switch… lesson learned about getting creative inside a nano enclosure with surface mount components).
April 1, 2014 at 9:58 pm #119830lomaxMemberthank you for the quick reply…
I will check which is the best solution. of course if u have a switch it would be great…but… I live in europe (netherland).November 18, 2015 at 4:07 pm #121007grangerampMemberI just got one in for repair – the switch is broken, housing separated. I emailed EH, this is the reply I received:
Quote:Hello. Please reply with your complete contact information and I can set up a repair for you. We do not have technical support via email or phone so the unit will have to come in for inspection. We do not sell the parts to our pedals at this time.It doesn’t say what, if any, the cost would be. I’m sure it’s a viable option. However, as I am a repair shop, I am sourcing the part myself. I found this at mouser.com. I’ll post details of the repair and part compatibility once I receive the part. According to the datasheet it looks like it would work.
November 20, 2015 at 7:12 pm #121010grangerampMemberThe part (link above) works. I successfully removed the broken one (I recommend using ChipQuik if you have it) and installed the new switch from Mouser. Fit perfect. Cost me under $8 with USPS First Class Shipping (you have to request it in the Shipping Instructions and total weight of order has to be less than 16 oz.)
Hope this helps someone else! m/
August 12, 2017 at 10:08 am #123045BrattwellParticipantHi there, is it the same on-off-on configuration for a Freeze pedal? I’m assuming it is but if anyone knows for sure I’d appreciate it, thanks (hoping I can buy the part from the link above, thanks for posting that!)
