Okay, I’ve used this for about a week now, and I’m really not sure if this is normal or not, but each time I come back to it with fresh ears, it sounds way too metallic. Sort of like an out of tune tin can sound. That’s about the best way to describe it. Pluck any string lightly and that’s the sound I hear – out of tune, robotic, metallic sound. Pluck the string really hard and the sound becomes less noticeable, but you can still tell it’s there.
The frequency filter is particularly noisy too.
Anyone else out there own a HOG 2 yet, and if so, can you tell me if you are experiencing the same issue?

I found the same, but only with certain presets, which with the expression pedal full ahead sound like some robotic furious bee.
Other factory presets sound pretty good in my case. You found that with every preset?

May 3, 2013 at 2:29 am #119021Withnail21MemberUnfortunately, I did. The higher the frequency, the worse it is. I really love the cello sound, but the underlying ‘out of tune robotic sound’ is ruining it for me. I’d love to test is against another pedal to see if it is defective, but the shop I bought this from had to special order it in, so that’s not an option.
The other thing I notice is the huge spikes in volume from time to time in the organ modes. You need to run it through a limiter to tame it. Again, I’m not sure if this is normal.
Did yours come with the EHX expression pedal?
May 3, 2013 at 3:18 am #119022FlystratMemberMy HOG2 worked strange for one day, I posted a question regarding this. Then it returned alone to normal.
It came with the new expression pedal with no moving parts. I found it uncomfortable because it is sensed by the Hog in the current position when a preset is called, and it is always in the full ahead position. Also I found it uncomfortable in itself, because it “moved” all around the place.
I use instead a Boss FV500H I had with no use, which I leave always in the heel position.
Hey… Try this: load presets while holding the pedal in the heel (full back) position. Does it change anything?May 3, 2013 at 6:05 am #119024Withnail21MemberI was not a fan of the expression pedal either. I ended up chasing it around the floor too, and ‘always up’ is definitely a problem. I gave up on the expression pedal after a day and a half. Tried the preset load, but the sound is still not right to my ears. Way too metallic and robotic voicing. It’s a shame because it could potentially be a fantastic pedal.
Each time I go back and give it another try, I’m hopeful it’ll grow on me. Unfortunately, I can’t get past the unnatural sound. I’m returning it tomorrow

Sorry to know that…
You will change for another unit or just return it?May 3, 2013 at 10:18 pm #119027Withnail21MemberI’d love to try another unit, but I don’t want to mess the store about by having them order another if the sound I’m hearing is normal. I feel bad having to return it.
It’s a shame, but that’s how it goes sometimes.
