I had a hog but just sold it. Nice pedal but a lot of things that keep it from being a great pedal.
The “original” tone/slider needs to be more like the dry. If I want to use the HOG with the expression pedal to control volume, whammy, etc. it sounds terribly fake. The whammy sounds unconvincing.
Internal presets like others have mentioned. I don’t mind if the HOG remains the same size in terms of enclosure but it should have a Hazarai type preset option.
When the pedal is bypassed the Input gain should also be bypassed, it sucks when I get clipping from overdrive pedals – even with the HOG bypassed.
Replace the middle switch with a preset selector switch. I know of no one that owns a HOG that doesn’t also own an expression pedal, the exp. pedal middle switch seems kind of pointless.
Better polyphony. While the HOG is good, its not that good.
When using the freeze mode, the seems to be an out of tune occurrence between the original signal and the held signal. It goes away once the held chord only remains – doesn’t seem to occur when the dry slider is off…
September 14, 2011 at 5:25 pm #116011aaronharmonParticipantUsing my first post ever to bump this thread. I just got my first EHX pedal, a POG2. It is absolutely amazing. I would love to hear that a HOG 2 is just around the corner.
September 14, 2011 at 11:55 pm #116013CryabetesParticipantaside from more MIDI control and maybe an effects loop or assignable outputs, what else could you add to the HOG? It’s a pretty comprehensive pedal.
September 15, 2011 at 3:35 am #116017aaronharmonParticipantI’ve read, though cannot confirm that the POG2 has better tracking. It certainly has a more attractive enclosure and it would be nice if it (the HOG 2) could store presets without the need of a large additional pedal. I’ve read others say they’d like a detune slider and MIDI compatibility as well. It would really killer if the whole package could auto level the volume for each preset as well (though that may be asking for too much.)
Mostly, I want a HOG 2 because I want a HOG, but don’t want to spend that much money on a pedal that many people feel is do for an update.

Can you do a firmware update on a HOG? I don’t think there is a way to hook my POG 2 to a PC. Just 1/4 in/out and a 9 volt outlet. There is no USB port (on the Pog 2)
February 10, 2012 at 3:48 pm #116028H.O.G.MemberI have my eyes on the analogizer but still…I don’t know much about it. I know it can warm a digital delay and be a good overdrive.
But what about a HOG?
I would love to hear the analogizer hooked up to a HOG.March 6, 2012 at 11:32 am #117092raindogMemberIt has a 10 ISP connector…

Quote:It has a 10 ISP connector…It does, but I bet it never gets used. The customer support issues for something like that would be a nightmare.
I think all the digital EHX pedals should have USB connectors for firmware updates & midi for full control. . . actually, a better standard than midi needs to be made, with smaller jacks that works better.

May 15, 2012 at 4:42 pm #117559nneekolasParticipantI just realized awhile ago that the HOG is now over ten years old. It’s really high time to replace this magnificent beast! The new digital pedals with presets have shown the way. It will be expensive and massive, sure, but so was the original HOG. Here are some things that it could have, culled from recent advancements:
1. Preset knob, digital control over parameters. The same white knob/scroll presets of the newer digital pedals that has been implemented so well. A dedicated footswitch for this would be great.
2. Stereo in/out and effects loop. Yes, this pedal will be massive but why not throw the kitchen sink at it!
3. Glissando mode should have an automatic option, for auto-gliss like the superego. Or maybe glissando mode is always auto unless you plug in an expression pedal.
4. Portamento mode from the V256 vocoder. As brilliantly demonstrated by Bill Ruppert in the Pink Floyd synth effectology, this is a marvellous effect that a synth pedal as powerful as the HOG2 should have.
5. Analog filter. The HOG2 will have a digital control interface to recall presets, so why not add a juicy analog filter instead of the HOG1’s digital filter? Its operations could be identical, but be warmer and fatter for wah/resonant filter sweeps.
6. Control Voltage and Expression control.
7. Same sliders and voices, but improved tracking? The HOG still impresses me at how well it tracks even very unusual chords and voicings, but after a decade of advancements I bet it could be made even more efficient and accurate by the wizards in your R&D department.
8. Apply different features to different voicings. This may not be possible or affordable to produce, but what if you could freeze your upper octave, gliss your generated sub-octave, and play as normal with the rest? Talk about unlimited possibilities.
Most of these have been discussed in this thread before, but I just wanted to reiterate that this pedal could be revolutionary and have a real market, even if it ended up being like $400 or more. The Bass Micro Synthesizer is my favorite effect of all time, and I have owned a HOG for years. No one is more equipped to keep pushing the envelope with synthesis effects than EHX.
May 15, 2012 at 9:37 pm #117563julianModeratorIt’s not quite 10 years old, POG might be 10, but HOG came out like 5 or 6 years ago.
December 2, 2012 at 9:39 am #118479steadmanmediaMemberI have been very interested in getting the HOG for my rig, but why was it discontinued for so long with no replacement on the horizon?? EHX is oddly silent about this.
It is incredible to me that the brilliant Effectology series features the HOG so prominently, yet HOG has disappeared from the product line without official comment. Listen to all the wonderful sounds you CAN’T get out of EHX pedals…I’m sure others are also frustrated.
Personally I’ll buy a used HOG on Ebay if I can. But first I would need to reverse-engineer the footpedal to translate MIDI into some kind of signal the HOG can understand to recall the presets. If someone can create such a box I bet there would be a market for it–at least until/unless EHX implements MIDI in a future edition of the HOG. One can only hope. It would make a lot of sense for those of us using MIDI presets and pedal loops in our rigs.
So, EHX what’s the story?
March 3, 2013 at 9:31 pm #118806H.O.G.MemberI wonder if the presets pedal for HOG2 works with the old HOG… anyone tried it?
March 7, 2013 at 12:43 pm #118809MattInVegasMemberI understand it doesn’t, but the old pedal may work with the HOG2.
