    Hey folks,

I bought a H.O.G. last month and I’m quite smitten with it. That said, I’m a 6 ft. 210 lb man with size 12 feet and I busted the supplied expression pedal and a 2nd replacement within four weeks… while sitting down! I recently replaced it with a Roland EV5 and at three times the price it instills only fractionally more confidence. I will not take it on a stage. Does a compatible expression pedal that exudes the kind of quality of say an Ernie Ball volume pedal or a Dunlop wah exist?

    Thanks much,
    Doug

I don’t think it would be terribly difficult to turn a Dunlop or Ernie Ball wah housing into an expression pedal.

This sounds like the best solution to me.

BTW I’m 6’6″ 230 lbs, and I’ve never broken one of the M-audios, but I have had the little plastic part pop out on me. It’s really simple just to pop it back in.

Maybe you aren’t breaking it but that part is breaking out for you too?

That’s certainly what happened with one of them, but I found — much like when you dislocate your shoulder — that after it happened once, it happened again pretty regularly. Again, not something I want to happen on stage. I think I might give the Moog a shot.

    Thanks for the insights.

the m-audio pedal that came with my HOG was broken within literally 10 minutes of me opening it. theyre REALLY poorly made, to the point where im shocked they were included at all, and their structural usefulness relies on a tiny piece of plastic which breaks entirely too easy. opened it up, was noodling about, pop, broke. immediately tossed it and ive been using a moog expression pedal, or maybe the roland, i forget.

The newer Boss FV-500L works nicely, but mine has recently been sitting at about 10% engaged or so due to the weight at the front of the pedal. It doesn’t make a huge difference except in the pitch bend modes; whenever I take my foot off of it, the thing bends up about 3 semitones… It’s irritating. They included adjustable sweep tension, but it only affects the middle of the sweep for some asinine reason so the thing still rests partially engaged at full tension. Also, it’s stupid expensive. I need to find ways of gumming up the joint so that it sits properly again, I hate ‘regular wear ‘n tear.’

FWIW, I’m 6’1 and 145 lbs and I hate using the M-Audio for fear of breaking it. I’ve had great luck so far because I keep all my weight on my back leg and move the expression pedal very gingerly, but if you’re breaking it while sitting down then there’s not much I can suggest. However, I wouldn’t expect any higher quality of a unit to come free with a pedal. I’m just happy they decided to ship it with the HOG, it allows you to get full functionality out of the box while you search for a stronger expression pedal.
