I happened on what appears to be a great find at goodwill today. While cruising the electronics section, I was surprised to see a guitar pedal. I immediately could tell it was an old pedal. Condition was a little beat up and I noticed both switches were pushed into the case and couldn’t be moved. All of the pots seemed tight and smooth, selector switch was tight and foot switch seemed to function smooth so maybe not all bad. I also noticed the sound of some small debris or metal sound rattling around inside, that might be bad. I figured worse case maybe some salvageable parts. I checked the price tag it was $8.49, unfortunately a red tag, The bargain 50% off price tag today was yellow but figured it was still worth the price. Getting home i quickly removed the bottom plate and found that the two switches had been pushed into the case but all the parts were there. The debris rolling around was the metal slide contact components to both switches, bonus! I figured out that both switches had just separated the circuit board connection from the switch casing. I carefully took both out and reassembled them and reinstalled them. I noticed that the power switch was different from the blend switch as the power switch was fastened on by a washer and nut on the inside where the blend switch had threaded holes as part of the switch backing plate. I assume one of them must have been replaced at some time, probably the power switch. With repairs made, both switches now had a very positive motion and switching feel. After inspecting all the other components and connections, I figured why not plug it in and fingers crossed, hope it didn’t smoke! I plugged it in and there was no appearance of smoke, sparks or sizzle! I switched the power switch to the on position and the led glowed red and after a few seconds there was no smoke, smell or heat. So far so good, so let’s go for broke and plug into a guitar and amp. Using my really cheap practice amp, I plugged it in and connected the pedal up. With the pedal plugged in but off it appeared to bypass just fine. Clean sound out of the amp. I switched her on and in the chorus position out came glorious sounds. Tested all the settings and all the pots and all appears to work as far as I can tell. Doing some quick online searches to understand more about it led me here. It appears to be an early vintage pedal rather than a later 80s reissue. I have not checked the pots out yet to determine age. The one strange thing is that instead of saying power like pictures of others I saw online, this one says status. I have not been able to find another one that says status. So wondering if there is any other information about this pedal you might have or other things to check out to ensure it functions correctly. All in all, I figure a lucky find today.
