Hi there, I used my new 22 calibre tonight in rehearsal for the first time… From the start I noticed I was getting little electric shocks every time my lips or chin brushed the microphone. I swapped the Mic to no avail and found that the only way to stop the shocks was to stop using the 22 calibre and pay through my ac15. The shocks only happened when I was touching the guitar strings…
Is my 22calibre faulty or dangerous:? sHould I send it back or is there something I can do?
Cheers

It’s a shock that you get from discrepancy between the grounding on two different systems. There’s either charge on your guitar strings that is finding ground through your microphone, or vice versa.
A lot of PAs & some amps allow you to select your ground. Finding the correct ground in this way helps reduce shock.

Thing is, I had no problems with the PA when using my AC15 on the same evening so any charge that’s getting into the strings must be coming from the 22 Caliber. It seems odd to me that there is no earth on the PSU as my mate has a 44 Magnum and that has one…cheers

“This is a design flaw in the 22 Caliber which was then fixed in the 44 Magnum. You should return it and get a 44 Magnum. “
Took it back to the shop, showed them this and they sorted me out a Magnum 44 although I had to pay the extra.
Surprised though that other than discontinuing the 22 Caliber – EHX have not issued a statement or a recall here.
August 28, 2014 at 9:01 pm #120192baumgParticipantI have a Magnum 44 purchased this March and I’ve experienced the same static shock with a microphone described above. Anyone had this problem associated with the Calibers with Magnums? The amp is working fine other than these shocks and I’ve tried to rule out all other factors possible. Haven’t contacted EHX yet but will soon. Has anybody any idea if there is a possible fault in the device or of a solution of any kind? Thanks!
January 16, 2016 at 2:45 pm #121186MattTheCatMemberI recently got a 44 magnum and experienced this too and also a shed load of hum. Really disappointed as this issue is spoiling an otherwise good piece of gear. Not sure what to do about it, wondering if maybe it’s down to a low quality power supply that came with it. …
