Hi, I’m having a problem with my Germanium 4 Big Muff Pi. I’m getting a strange crackling sound whenever the overdrive side of the pedal is switched on. I’ve tried it a 9v power supply and with the battery that was supplied with the pedal and it doesn’t seem to make a difference to the crackling noise. I’ve had absolutely no problem with the distortion side, which is very quiet. I’m wondering if anyone has any idea what the problem might be; I’m worried it might be a faulty pedal.

No it’s probably just a bad footswitch or solder joint. contact EHX and have them fix you up with a new one or a repair job.

I was googling fixes for my germanium4 noisy distortion side when I came across this thread.
The Op mentions that he has a quiet dist. side of the germ4. Maybe another owner can chime in about the distortion side of their germ4 and tell me if they consider it noisy.I received the germ muff for xmas and I really feel that the distortion side is extra noisy. The Od side is nice and quiet though. I havent measured the noise or anything but its pretty significant even with the gain/volume way down and switched on. I like the sound of the pedal but the noise is too much and it makes the germ4 an un-giggable piece. Its just too damn noisy. You should hear with both side engaged; a hissy, noisy mess. Anyone else find this to be true? Did I get a stinker or something? I haven’t been able to compare with another unit yet to see if maybe there is something concretely wrong with it but have plans to when I see one.
So what say you Germ4muff owners? Is the distortion side very noisy on your unit? If so anyone with a fix or anything I can do besides a noise suppression unit or the like? I have to admit I’m a little disappointed with the unit since I took it to rehearsal the 1st time. I should also note good, clean cables are used, I’m not a high gain player so the amps used are usually fenders or a vox ac15; something with a solid clean channel. The amps aren’t noisy, the guitar and cables aren’t noisy just my ehx pedal is….Please help.

Distortion side is quiet. I cannnot fix this problem even with my Rocktron Guitar Silencer Hush/Gate after the Germanium. Any suggestions?
