What’s up everyone?
I had been looking into building a pedal with a voltage sag. I would came across a few schematics and directions. Being as lazy as I am, I just bookmarked everything for later. Then the GeOD was released. I searched, high and low, in every music store in Pittsburgh. Could not find it. Even had family in Eastern Pa look for this thing. Yeah I know that I could have ordered it. I’m lazy. Well I finally found one. After an enjoyable dentist visit, I staggered across the street to a smaller guitar shop. There she was, finally!!!
I haven’t had as much time as I would like with this pedal. So far, it is winner. I use it for that 60’s garage rock tone. Copying the setting from this site’s demo, it nails it perfectly. I think it sounds great with single coil pickups. I use my Strat or Mustang into my Bassman with the GeOD. WOW!!!! The tone and vibe, knocks my socks off.
So if anyone wants to share settings, thoughts, recommendations. Lets hear them.
Any questions?The dimensions are:
4 5/8″ x 3 5/8″ x 1 5/8″ (11.5cm x 9cm x 4cm) I hope my math is correct. The measurements do not include the rubber feet on the bottom or th in/output jacks on the sides. Here is a link, that shows a size comparison between the GeOD, Big Muff Pi and LPB-1.

Do you find it creates enough dirt on it’s own into a clean amp or do you use it to push your amp into overdrive?
October 31, 2008 at 2:34 pm #86606Dr. MattModeratorAny chance of sound clips?
All i’ve heard from the GeOD is the proguitarshop.com demo. This pedal does appeal to me though, if it can get that classic “slashed speaker” fuzztone without a scooped midrange.
October 31, 2008 at 2:50 pm #86610MINGMemberA mild overdrive. I just ran it through a VJ. The VJ’s volume was set at about 9 o’clock. All of the pedals knobs were maxxed. The VJ has a 12AT7 so the gain of the amp is toned down a little.
At my computer, I have a hybrid Vox VR30. The amp is set clean and the pedal’s settings are the same as before. The same, a mild overdrive.
I really like the taper of the gain knob. I haven’t used this pedal playing out yet, but at home, I really like it. I find that some pedal’s volume are quiet, then LOUD. This pedal has a smooth volume increase.
October 31, 2008 at 2:52 pm #86611MINGMemberI’m sorry, I don’t have anything to record with. Everytime I go to look at something to buy, I end up buying pedals. To be honest, I don’t even know where to start with recording. I want something basic, but good quality.
Yes, it can get that “slashed” speaker sound.
November 1, 2008 at 8:16 pm #86693Fender&EHX4everModeratorHere’s a soundclip I posted using 3 different EHX distortions: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6820524
Deluxe Big Muff Pi, Reissue Hot Tubes, Germanium OD
There are only 2 different riffs, each played 3 times.
Can you guess which distortion was used with which riff?

December 3, 2008 at 7:48 am #88167SirJackdeFuzzMemberI LOVE MY GER OD !!!
Great for those vintage and/or garage rock tones
It gets me anything from the Sonics to JSBX and the White Stripes-like tone.December 3, 2008 at 7:56 am #88169SirJackdeFuzzMemberMMMmm, i like 1C the best, so i hope that is the Hot Tubes.
The others, well, i’ll give it a skip, in order to safe my reputation.
December 19, 2008 at 6:29 pm #89177Kevin DemuthMemberi’ve just ordered myself a Germanium OD – it should be delivered on monday; i can’t wait!
also, they used to be really expensive over here (UK) – over £100 – so i’m delighted that i’ve bought a brand new one for £66.
December 19, 2008 at 7:25 pm #89179Ned FlandersModeratorIts a pretty cool pedal, been meaning to get one but I’m always buying big muffs so its on the back burner. I particularly like a bias control on pedals.
December 20, 2008 at 3:03 am #89245MINGMemberIt is a cool pedal. Mine has been collecting a little dust. Gonna have to take her around the block a few times.

i’ve only had a quick play so far but !
even the clean settings are great; there’s a bit of compression and it sounds really pretty.
the more extreme sounds are easy to find too… i had a short loop going on the Haz and ran it through the Germanium OD and played with the controls; using the Bias and Volts you can dial in some subtle breakup around the edges, a little fuzzy texture all the way to retro garage sounds.
i still need to try it with my other dirt pedals but so far, i love it! :rawk:
December 22, 2008 at 3:32 pm #89467Fender&EHX4everModeratorThe Germanium OD has really crept up on everyone. I believe it’s going to be one of EHX’s most overlooked but classic boxes.

i have to admit, i ignored it for a long time… when it came out i watched a demo (where they showed the extreme, low voltage settings) and thought that was all it did! it was only a couple of weeks ago that i dug a little deeper and discovered that it did a lot more.
