Add a “ducking” switch, that would mute the ‘frozen’ signal while you’re playing, and turn it back on again when you stop. Like adding a sidechain compression to the frozen sound. There could be small knobs for activation threshold and ducking amount, to control the amount of effect.
If you want to be super-awesome, add a portamento between the frozen and dry sounds.
If I had this for my bass guitar, I could totally emulate a Roland 303.

don’t think a “ducking switch” would do any good though…
but instead EHX people could add an expression pedal compatibility to control the speed of the fade manually in latch mode, you could then just fade the frozen sound completely, than bring it up again at will… it would be cool and easy to do.
another thing I noticed almost immediately is that I hate the “click factor” of the DPDT switch, I will probably change it with a smoother one, like the ones found on Tech 21 pedals or even a cool “push-button”

This has been the only downside mentioned in all the reviews I’ve read regarding this pedal and it’s the only reason I’ve not purchased one. Does EHX have any plans in the near future regarding this known “issue”?
August 27, 2012 at 9:46 pm #118054blocoParticipantyeah.. and apparently there is no way to change the switch.. something to do with the true bypass, says a friend of mine who builds hand-made pedals.
You get used with it eventually but I’m still looking for a second opinion on exchanging the switch.August 28, 2012 at 1:37 am #118055xraticMemberHey!! Look at what I found!!!!

Thoughts everyone? Looks reasonable to me.

Noisy footswitching was a permanent feature of vintage EHX pedals, no problem when playing at seriously high volume on stage, in fact pretty useful sometimes since you had an idea if the pedal was on or off through the pressure on the sole of your foot (no LEDs). This said, I have had many occasions when playing live in small venues, or for theatre, modern ballet and such stuff, where a loud “clunk” went bouncing around the PA by means of the vocal mike, in moments of supposed quiet. Unfortunately this continues to happen with the new generation of EHX pedals.
So right now I often time my stomping on an effects pedal (99% EHX at this present time) to a loud bass drum beat or a hit on the snare. This doesn’t help in solo/quiet parts though……and is the principle reason why I did not buy a Freeze pedal..”Replacing the footswitch” should really no longer be necessary on EHX pedals. The EHX genius has developed some amazing new sounds and musical features…why are we still dealing with `70s switch noise?September 3, 2012 at 4:37 pm #118096blocoParticipantYeah !
the mod really looks something worth trying !September 4, 2012 at 9:50 pm #118107echobaseoneMemberIt’s so easy it’s laughable. undo 2 connections, make two connections.
HUGE improvement on a really cool pedal.
Of course, I think I paid more for shipping/handling than the switch itself! -
