well i just read through it all. I have everything that guy did too. I isolated it from my chain, the noise was still present. I dont have a very trebely setup, im using monster cables (tho i tried a cheapy too, it sounded a bit worse but nothing drastic), and it makes noise on every channel, unbearably so. I also tried it on my cheapy practice amp- god that sounded awful. In that thread they do say that the fx loop would help, and i believe it. When i put the pedal through the front, it makes the noise, even at low volumes. Now when i put it in the fx loop, the volume decreases but he nois disappears almost entirely, in fact i thought it was gone until i rrreeeallly listened. Now if i put it back up front and lower the volume on the amp to try to get it the same as the previous scenario, i still get the noise.
So…im pretty sure this pedal has a bit of noise. I understand that its analog and stuff thats all fine, its not making me dislike the pedal. Any place with reviews will tell ya over and over again it has a lot of noise, i just want it gone.

The problem with FX loops is there isn’t really an industry standard and they all work a little differently. Maybe there’s something amp-side that can be done.I don’t know if using a boost in conjunction would work quite right in the loop.
Oh- if the loop is a parallel loop, perhaps the is some phase cancellation between the clean signal and the effected signal. Try using the other output on the Clone Theory and see if that has an effect.
So the lpb-1 would mess up the sound a little when used with the effect such as the flanger hoax?

The LPB-1 isn’t completely transparent though it would alter your tone slightly, I wouldn’t say ‘mess it up’ I like what it does to my tone (although I’ve never tried it in a loop) but it would sound different. The MXR micro amp would colour the tone less but it’s double the price of an lpb…..
….have you got an overdrive pedal lying around, you could try that with the drive knob right down and the volume up to boost the signal, that would give you an idea of what it would sound like with a boost after it?
January 7, 2009 at 12:30 pm #90254srrdudeMemberI would rather not use a boost to do this. Although the pedal is noisy up front its pretty silent in the fx loop and the randall guys tell me that all pedals on this rig are quiet in the fx loop but the line level shifter solves the problem completley

I never thought of the overdrive idea, but i guess that should probably work somewhat. It really doesn’t matter to me if it alters the tone a little, so i may try that and the lpb-1 or the micro amp to see how it is.

I just got the lpb-1 today and it works fine to bring the volume back up.
