I’m looking for a descent expression pedal that’s fully compatible with the EHX Enigma QBalls.
Moog EP2 by review is cheaply made. EB VP Jr ? I use active basses .Please advise ! Thanks !
I use a EB VP Jr. It doesn’t matter if your basses are active or not, because to use a volume as an expression pedal you don’t plug your bass into the Volume Pedal. I use a stereo(TRS) to Two – Mono 1/4 ” Y-adapter to use the pedal as expression. Plug the stereo end into the EXP input on the Q-balls and then plug the two mono ends into the Input and Output of the Volume pedal. It will then act as an expression pedal.
Hi
I have an old keyboard exp pedal, tried to plug it into the enigma, but it doesn’t work, I guess it’s not the right impedance. Can anybody tell me what impedance is the original EH exp pedal? Can’t even find it on the EH site…
Thanks jason3fc. Appreciate your input; ‘believe that’s what I’m going to do . . .
I use an EB 6181 25k VP Jr. and it works fine – at least to my liking.
As for normal Expression pedals you find that are intended for keyboard applications, there are apparently two “styles”, the Yamaha and the Roland style and I guess are wired differently.
Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the EHX pedals require the Roland style Exp pedals to work properly.
the M-Audio EX-P seems to be the best option, EH even ships it with a couple of there more expensive units.
i have one, it has an adjustment knob on the side to adjust range, and a switch on the bottom to change the type of pedal you need it for.
my only concern with it was that it is made of plastic, but after owning one i can say its very sturdy and strong!
So the exp pedal should be around 10 – 25 kohm to work fine. I’ll check the impedance of my old pedal, and eventually change the pot.
I just took a look on the M-Audio web site, they say the pedal has a “polarity switch”, so there should be two different ways of connecting the cables… this is less clear, I’ll begin by setting the right impedance, and I’ll see.
Thanks to everybody.
The polarity switch is what I described above. (Yamaha vs Roland). There shouldn’t be any different way of connecting it as they all just plug into the pedal with a stereo(TRS) input.
