ugly…
I like the colors. Reminds me of the original designs from the 70s. Very retro.
January 15, 2011 at 4:02 pm #113781TheGhostMachinaMemberAs someone who has relied on a Deluxe Memory Boy, I am supper excited for the DMMTT. I have also longed for a Riddle, but now I think I’m gonna hold out for the Talking Machine. But I’m really looking forward to the Killswitch.. Good job, EHX.. Keep up the good work!

January 15, 2011 at 4:20 pm #113782DreamhunterMemberHow come the new Memory Man uses 9V, instead of 24V like the other model? Won’t that affect the sound?
January 15, 2011 at 4:24 pm #113783julianModeratorQuote:Not much, but it’s a nice up close pic (now my desktop background) and a reasonable description. Also has the retail price! And it’s actually rather affordable!
Remember, that’s the MSRP or Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price. The Street Price (price stores will put on it) will be about 25% less.

Won’t that affect the sound? It’s not using the Higher Voltage MN30XX Series of Chips of Yesteryear, it’ll have been converted to either the 8-Pin BL3208 or possibly the Cool Audio V3205 chip clones of the MN32XX Chips which run off a lower voltage.
All this is means is it might not have quite as much headroom, something a player might notice, but in a band situation… I doubt an audience cares, the filtering on a delay is mainly important to its sound.
January 15, 2011 at 6:30 pm #113786DreamhunterMemberWill it still sound like a Memory Man then? Are these chips still superior to the ones being used in the Deluxe Memory Boy?
January 15, 2011 at 6:32 pm #113787Mr.GrimMemberok im really excited about the Stereo Talking Machine now. i have been about to buy the nano bass balls to make extra room on my board, because i currently use the larger Russian version. (i use on guitar, so simple yet one of my favorite effects!)
but it sounds like the Stereo Talking Machine may be EH’s answer to a “WMD’s super fat man”
and i hear the Stereo Talking Machine can simulate the bass balls sound as well.
if all this is true, then this would be an awesome addition to my arsenal! can anyone confirm it can do the bass balls effect?? and any comparisons to the versatility of the “WMD’s super fat man”??
Thank you!!

SO it’s impossible to say what it’s truly running without taking it apart to see.

“The new pedal provides nine selectable voices that deliver vowel sounds such as AH-OO and OW-EE, as well as Bassballs and wah-type dynamic filters.”
and if you look, one of the available “voice” sounds is “bb” which for me says bassballs mos def

January 15, 2011 at 8:23 pm #113792astrozombieParticipantim really looking foward to the mistress and DMM.
im guessing the memory man will sell at around $300?
it seems to me like the mistress is just the flanger part of the original. right?
January 15, 2011 at 8:25 pm #113793julianModeratorI think the new DMM will be closer to 400.

im guessing the electric mistress will go for like $80?
January 15, 2011 at 9:58 pm #113798Mr.GrimMemberyeah i read that quote about it as well Jesse, but just because they say that dont make it true, remember they are trying to sell things, unfortunately thats how marketing goes, remember the Nano Clone?!?!, we were not happy with that, thats why we now have the Neo clone.
im hoping one of the first purchasers of the unit can make an actual sound comparison and let us all know.
January 15, 2011 at 10:57 pm #113799earwaxMemberWhere is the info on the power supply? I can’t seem to find it. That would be a shame if it’s not then mn3005. You should just buy the deluxe memory boy then.

The Memory Boy uses the BL3208 aswell though, none of the Memory Toys/Boys/Mans use MN3005 anymore, those chips are long gone, even the bulk stock they had. The XO Memory Man was using 4 x 3008 (The Smaller Brother of the 3005, hence 4 instead of 2) and I assume they still do and that runs off the higher voltage.

True, but I feel it unlikely, stocks of 3008 would be running low too for there XO Memory Man so EHX are probably converting all there designs over to the readily available 32XX Series, while they could use a charge pump to deliver higher voltages to the rest of the circuit for more headroom, the BBDs will still be the low voltage chips.
Quote:Will it still sound like a Memory Man then? Are these chips still superior to the ones being used in the Deluxe Memory Boy?They’re the same chips used in the Memory Boy and aslong as the design is the same as the memory man (allowing for the design changes for the new chip, mainly polarity issues) Yes it will most likely sound like a Memory Man, if they change the basic design along with the changes needed to get the new chips to function, then maybe not, that I can’t tell you.
BBDs (The MN3005 or whatever) are a very small part in the overall design when you look at it, they delay and poorly at that, so that’s why they have all that surrounding circuitry to make them work well and makes the pedal sound like it is. So don’t fear these new chips, there’s no Superiority, they’re the same chip every Analog Delay company is using these days, EHX know what the sound of the Memory Man is like and how they got it in the first place so I doubt they’d stray too far from that tested sound.
