This may be a dumb question as I don’t know a whole lot about tube differences and what they do in the EXH tube pedals. I have a Hot Tubes and just got a pair of 12FQ7s with an organ and am wondering if I can try them in the Hot Tubes. I know they are dual triodes like 12AX7s and read that they run at the same voltage, but would it be safe to pop them into the Hot Tubes? I’m not concerned about them providing a crappy sound. I just want to make sure they wouldn’t hurt the pedal.
They’re not functional equivalents so don’t try it. Actually, the bases are different so it wouldn’t even fit.
Thank you. I won’t try them out. They do fit though, I popped one in to see if the pins matched or if they were smaller as they are both 9 pin. I think that is why the guy I bought the organ from thought they came with it. Thank you.
I am not sure, as I don’t have any 12FQ7’s to compare, but it might actually work. The 12FQ7 doesn’t have a center tap to the filament, so it will only work off of 12VAC, and pin #9 has to be ‘open’ on the socket. 12AX7’s can be run from a 12VAC supply or a 6.3VAC supply by using pin #9 and a parallel pin #4 and #5. So there might be a mod to the socket that makes it a daunting task, unless the 12AX7 was wired for 12VAC filament operation. Puzzling? Yep. This is more questions than answers, so better safe than sorry and put the 12FQ7’s away.
Yeah I won’t be trying anything with them. It isn’t worth it. I wasn’t looking for that special 12FQ7 sound or anything. lol
