Hey guys,
I’m new here at the EHX Forum. I have some Mods I’d like to share with you guys.
First simple mod I offer is the Micro Synth to Bass Micro Synth Conversion.
All mods include True Bypass w/LED monitor.
I adjusted the Octave Up section to sound more like the Tycho Brahe octave.
I adjust the Sub Octave section and included what I call an FA switch (Fat Arse)
I also adjust some off the levels of the voicing at their max settings. I felt the Square wave was too loud, Sub Octave was too quiet, the Octave Up was also too quiet.
But, the wickedest mod off all is the External Foot Control of the Stop Frequency parameter. I didn’t come up with this one myself, but I did implement it to perfection.
I use a stereo jack as an insert which allows a volume pedal to control the stop frequency real time. This allows you to have a Synth Wah. It sounds AMAZING!!! I will post a link to a youtube video as soon as I record it.
If anyone is interested please email me and/or reapond to this thread. See my profile for my email.
thanx,
shotgunn

hey Shotgunn,
could i possibly get detailed information on all of those mods?

I think I will make a MUCH shorter and more concise video demo. Maybe 3-5 minutes. Based on my youtube video stats, EVERYBODY loses interest a couple of minutes into each video.
I guess not everyone is like me. I prefer things to be REAL in depth.
I have received a lot of emails though. Only 1 customer though.
If any body is interested feel free to email me. I should have said in my initial post…
This is not a free mod, or service. I will not release the info free of charge.
Thanx,
shotgunn
June 9, 2009 at 1:08 pm #97592Fender&EHX4everModeratorDo you mod the Bass Micro Synthesizer also?
June 9, 2009 at 3:01 pm #97595shotgunnMemberYes, as a matter of fact I do. I will also convert the Micro Synth to the Bass Micro Synth. There are only a few component differences.
I play guitar and prefer the Bass Micro Synth over the Guitar Micro Synth.
At the moment I cannot MOD the new XO synths as the use SMT (surface mount) components.
I have considered getting an SMT soldering station to expand my MODS.
I think it can be done, as long as I have the right tools.

October 2, 2009 at 3:49 am #101979jonphippsMemberHey Shotgunn! It’s Jon Phipps, the guy who was probably your first Micro synth mod customer! How’s it going?
I only just got round to doing the mods on the micro synth this week, i had been distracted in recent months and never got round to doing it until now. The mods sound amazing and i’m very pleased with it. I did all the mods aside from the expression pedal mod (i haven’t ordered the stereo DPDT jack socket yet).
The voice mixer is now much more equally balanced, and i find that the voices are strong enough to work individually now, where as before i would blend them. The sub octave and the F.A mod are incredibly phat and juicey, while the upper octave is so much brighter and more spikey.
However, i’ve had a few problems with it as well.
The resonance slider seems to have next to no effect at the moment. You said in your notes to experiment with different caps for the resonance cap: i haven’t done this yet as i didn’t know where to start but i presume this is probably the cause of the problem. What type of capacitor do you recommend for this? Do you reckon the resonance slider’s inactivity is soley because i haven’t changed the capacitor to compensate for the other mods that have been done to the pedal?
I was just watching your youtube demos of your modified micro synth and realized another problem with mine. The ‘guitar’ voice which on my pedal used to be clean and on your modified pedal is clean, but on my modified pedal the guitar voice sounds very distorted, much like the square-wave voice.
Where do you suggest i start trouble-shooting for problems with the ‘guitar’ voice? The true-bypass works fine so i don’t know why the guitar voice is kicking in with distortion.
Thanks again for giving me all the info and photos on your mods, it’s been interesting working on the micro synth and i’m enjoying the sounds i can get out of it so far! I will do the expression pedal mod very soon as that sounds super cool. Did you work out how to do the expression mod for the LP filter on the POG in the end?
Keep up the good work Shotgunn, have you come up with any other cool EHX mods laterly?
October 2, 2009 at 7:35 am #101981DarkAxelParticipantOh, shotgun!! that’s really nice, for the first time i’ve got a feeling that this pedal isn’t useless :rawk: nice mods and nice demo (the best I’ve seen so far)
(no offense to micro synthesizer users, i’m just “not there yet”)

Hello,
I have the same problem with my pedal & it is the old box enclosure. However, mine is distorting no matter what setting or voice I use. The Square slider does still make a difference, but only in degree.
Also, shotgun, how much is your MOD?
