    Hi everybody,

    I want to buy the EHX Cathedral reverb but i’m not sure if it’s “true bypass” or not.

    If it doesn’t say so then it probably isn’t. I’d imagine it has a buffered output so when you turn it off after a solo the reverb trails off rather than stopping abruptly.

    True bypass wouldn’t be good in this pedal IMO.

    no, it’s not True Bypass, but it’s not buffered either…

    it uses a hard-wired, mechanical bypass like the Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai.

    as a general rule, stereo pedals aren’t True Bypass and those that are use passive signal splitting – which is, for technical reasons i won’t go into, not ideal.

    was there any specific reason you wanted to know whether it was true-bypass?

    I just wanted to know it, ’cause i had a delay pedal not true bypass and it made my signal like “dirty”, once i changed it for a true bypass analog delay the sginal became clean. I know that getting a true bypass analog reverb it’s difficult, ’cause most of the reverb pedals are degital but i’ve heard that if you look “hard” for it you can find one.

    i thought that would be the case.

    please don’t rule out all buffered pedals; some buffers are good and will help your tone, but of course, as you’ve found, some buffers are not so good.

    there aren’t many analogue reverb pedals available…
    the first that come to mind are the DOD FX45 and Arion SRV-1 which are long-discontinued and quite limited in their functionality (and not true-bypass, although the bypass on the DOD – which i have – isn’t bad).
    the other that comes to mind is the Van Amp reverb pedals but they’re big, expensive and again, quite limited in functions.

    Yes, I’ve heard the pedal you’re talking about but none of them were exactly what I was looking for.
    Searching day and night for a good reverb pedal I’ve found one that sounds good, is the tech21 Boost R.V.B., is bufferd bypass and if you hear it on internet you’ll find it cool.

    I like the one I told you before, maybe buy it, but i’ll keep on looking.
