these EHX units are spectacular when loaded with quality vintage tubes…..like the nos GE 6072 I have in my other 2.

the continuing problem, judging by forums and my experience is EHXs’ insistence on supplying poor tubes….to save costs with a bullet in the foot, no doubt, and I guess enough engineer types figure out how to get em fired up right.

seems to me somebody could offer an EHX upgrade complete with Tongsol or GE tubes and really make a spash with non-engineering musicians.

or EHX could supply decent tubes. I rolled three sets of new EHX tubes through my latest and 3rd 12AY7 mic pre, and each one was so faulty I was considering returning the unit and contacted the seller.

one view is ‘bite it’, spend another $50-150 on good or great tubes and be happy….this would be OK if there were a tongue and cheek note from the owner to this effect….but as it is, customers feel ripped off….and have to delay studio work while awaiting tubes in the mail.

feel free to prove me wrong and send 6 working EHX tubes.
I will amend my review.

this is meant to be constructive….the 12AY7 is golden…the tubes: lead.
