SITUATION: I just picked up the Bastl MIDI Looper. I want to start a loop on the Bastl, send its clock to the eh95000, and loop audio.
SETTINGS: The Bastl is set to “free running” mode, which is supposed to infer tempo from a freely played loop. A MIDI cable runs from its MIDI OUT 2 to the MIDI IN of the 95000. The EXT CLOCK LED on the 95000 is blinking, which I think means BX mode. The PAGE LED is blinking but I don’t know why. I click NEW TRACK; the LED turns solid, and REC starts flashing.
EXPECTED BEHAVIOR: When I press RECORD I can record audio. When I press RECORD again, that audio loops in time with the Bastl loop.
ACTUAL BEHAVIOR: I press RECORD and the light changes flash frequency. I play a few notes and press record. No sound loops. The NEW LOOP and RECORD LEDs are off.
Where might I be going wrong?

Try again with these connections but make sure the 95000 is connected to the Bastl when you press PLAY on the Bastl. If there’s a way to enable/disable MIDI start on the Bastl, make sure Start is enabled.
One recommendation I have, for getting yourself set up with EXT CLOCK on the 95000, is to first record a test loop without MIDI clock but with Quantize enabled. Then once the test loop is established, enable EXT CLOCK and make the connections between the Bastl and 95000. Press PLAY on the Bastl and the 95000 should immediately begin playback. Change BPM on the Bastl and the 95000 should change tempo as well.
July 19, 2021 at 5:53 pm #132184biofrequencyParticipantWhile trying to follow your recommendation, I discovered the undocumented 4th clock mode, CX. The workflow I want is 1) establish a loop length by recording to the Bastl, then 2) add audio layers. CX mode lets me do just that! Thanks very much.

EXTERNAL CLOCK CX Mode: MIDI Clock Only: for syncing to devices that do not produce MIDI Start messages. Incoming MIDI Clock messages determine the tempo; MIDI Start, Stop, Continue & SPP messages are ignored. Otherwise the units behaves as if it is internal sync mode for Play/Record/Overdub from footswitch. If not receiving MIDI Clock, the EXT.CLOCK LED will flash and the unit will not Play, Record or Overdub. An active Play/Record/Overdub operation will continue at the last external tempo if MIDI Clock is lost.
