    I’m from Australia and just purchased a EH Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai from the US. I’m a newbie to EH so please excuse my lack of knowledge in this area. I realise I will need some sort of voltage converter to use it in Australia. Is this as simple changing the American power supply pack to an Australian one with the right voltage or will I need a step up/down power transformer. What would be the best and smallest option? What do I need to look for?

    probably the smallest/eaiest/best way to do it is use a AU power supply, the Hazarai takes a ‘standard’ 9v ‘Boss/Ibanez’ Type (9v centre negative barrel type end) which you may already have or should be very easy to buy from guitar shops or electronic shops.

    ….or you could use a US/AU coverter and plug the US power supply into that, but yes that would need to contain a step down to the US 110 voltage (not just a plug adapter) and will obviously be more bulky than just using a AU power supply.

    Thanks electro-melx. I think I do have a few power supply packs around. Please excuse the silly question, but the power pack I got for my Akai Headrush is:

    AC ADAPTOR
    INPUT: 240V AC 50Hz
    OUTPUT: 9V DC 200mA

    Is this the kind I would need to power the EHSMMH. If that’s the case…too easy!! My main concern is trying not to blow it up!

    yup that’s spot on, 9v DC 200ma is the right output, providing it is centre negative…there should be a little picture on it somewhere the ‘+’ sign should be connected by a line to something that looks like a ‘C’ shape and the ‘-‘ should be connected by a line to a black dot in the middle of the ‘C’ shape? …. that means it’s centre negative and is correct, if it’s the other way round (+ sign to the black dot) DON’T plug it in!!

    I’m gonna have a look online and see if I can find out exactly what PSU the headrush uses incase you can’t find the diagram on it.

    actually if you can’t find it on the power pack, look on the headrush where you put the power in…there should be the little diagram like I just described, if it’s centre negative, then it’s the same as the Hazarai and you are good to go.

    on new ehx pedals the diagram is slightly different, the negative symbol is actually on the black dot in the centre, but it means the same thing so provided they are the same on the Haz/Headrush, then you are cool, or the same on the PSU and the Haz….when you look at them you’ll see what i’m saying (I hope) If there’s anything you aren’t sure about just ask. :)

    A BIG THANKS TO BOTH OF YOU!!
    I checked my Headrush and to be exact the unit says ‘DC IN’ then beside it has ‘DC 9V’ with the first diagram in Julian’s pic ‘Centre-negative output’ underneath it.

    good stuff, that’s a pretty standard power supply for most pedals, but there are exceptions…so it’s always worth checking.

    enjoy the Hazarai, it’s a really amazing pedal imo….if you find it frustrating at first make a cup of coffee, put your feet up and read the manual. it’s something you will have to learn to use to some extent, but the rewards will keep you smiling for years!!

    Well they both are delay/loopers. I think the SMMH is based off of different digital technology, that’s unique to EHX though.

    Eek I may be wrong- it says the Akai samplers- don’t know if the Headrush would count among those. I forgot about the MPC and such

    All you do dude is go to your local music store and buy a boss 9VDC adapter, it will run the SMMH perfectly.
    I buy ALL my effects from the USA and I either just buy adapters locally or I buy UK adapters from the USA and use another plug adapter so the UK adapter fits our sockets because the UK are on the same volts as us, 240V 50hZ. Its ok if the adapter is 220V or even 250V, it still works fine.

    You can buy adapters locally that go between 4 and 12 volts, you adjust it with a switch and also you can change if its center negative or center positive, they are 1,500mA so you can also run a whole lot of pedals off of them, they cost around AU$20. All you need to run a bunch of pedals off them is a daisy chain adapter, you can buy them locally too. These 1,500mA adapters are way cheaper than the BOSS ones and are more powerful so look out for them in the future.

    Awesome stuff! Thanks guys!! And it’s never too late Ned. Nice to know a fellow Aussie is around. I appreciate everyone’s time. Interesting trivia and article too.

    Frustrating thing now is waiting for this little baby to arrive. If I have any dramas…after my first cup of coffee and reading the instructions, I’ll know where to go.
