I’m considering doing some crazy stuff to the cases of one of my EH pedals (notably my SMMH), e.g. buffing it down and polishing so that nobody knows what it is then engraving the dial/jack names back on it or maybe swirl dipping the top case in a paint bath like a hair-metal guitar from the 1980s.
Zvex always have super-quaint individual designs for their pedals and i’ve always like the one-of-a-kind idea.
Have any of you guys painted your own pedals yet?
show your working out
January 28, 2010 at 2:17 pm #106880John JMemberunless you are a talented artist and know what you are doing i can’t recommend painting your own pedal. the whole ‘it looks so bad it’s good’ thing is always just a little bit disappointing in your heart. i got a super limited edition (#1 of 1) woolly mammoth a while back and fantasized about having cool art designs on all my pedals so i started on my DD-6 and my Graphic Fuzz – i’ve yet to be happy looking at either of them.
just saying.
PS have you seen the zvex custom store yet? everytime i go there i fantasize about selling all of my pedals and ordering a fuzz probe, a super duper and a jonny octave and never looking back.

January 28, 2010 at 9:35 pm #106897merdujaponMemberI’m certain i’ve seen someone on this forum sand down the slikscreen print off their SMMH; i’ve been scouring the forums to find the photo but i’ve had no luck. any idea whodunnit?
I’m not so keen on the painted zvex look either, i was just referencing the one-of-a-kind thing.
EDIT: the avatar of the user “ghost” on this forum has the SMMH i am talking about. maybe i’ll PM him.

Plus it trips people out when I play solo with just one box and have vocal and guitar loops going, reverb on some things, stuttering delays on others, long washed out delays, reverses, etc…
I actually took the dead sticker off there, as I’m not much of a fan. MORE just a fan of the Steal Your Face logo than anything else.
The tricky part is, when I don’t use the pedal for awhile.. remembering what does what. But I’ve got it pretty much memorized. I often forget the low/hi pass filter is there tho.
Also I have now replaced the white knobs on both with black knobs, as it was a dead give away for folks who know.
