Another amazing episode of ‘Effectology’. Very creative and inspirational sounds.
Those poltergeist strings part was the best sound of them all…Awesome man.
I understand that making these episodes takes time and research, But I do wish
effectology came more often. Thanks a million.
Hey Mark.
Yes I have a bunch of Ministar guitars and I love them.
You need to set them up but when you do they play like butter and sound huge.
They weigh 3lbs! and travel great(the airplane over head ect)
I was shocked at how big they sound and that is due to it being a soild piece of maple, from top to bottom with a stop tail piece style bridge.
They have new improved models about to be released. I am excited to see whats new. http://ministarguitars.net/id70.html

Hi Bill,
Is that a Ministar guitar your playing? How do you like it?
The Theremin was absolutely incredible – made me think of a zombie apocalypse in the Wild West for some reason! Haha.
I have a question about that particular tone, the BM Pi was acting more as a clean sustainer pedal than a distortion pedal there. How does the BM Pi cope solely as a clean sustainer pedal, against purpose-built sustainers? I’m also guessing your amp tone was set to clean to counteract the high gain added by the Sustain setting?
Thanks Ecco_Luke.
Well for the theremin sound the Big Muff is by no means clean! Its a filthy dirty distortion.
At full up it creates an almost square wave from a clean guitar.
This wave form is full of high frequency stuff.
Turning down the tone knob rounds off the high harmonics created when the pedal clips or goes into distortion. This rounding off of the square wave looks and sounds more like a sine wave like a theremin.
Its still VERY distorted and best with only one or two notes at a time.
A compressor or sustainer pedal works differently and does not change the wave shape or sound of the clean guitar input.
You are right I used a very clean neutral amp setting.
I do that with all the Effectology sounds as I want the sounds heard to be from the pedals and not effected by the amp I am using.
Hope that helps a little!
Thanks again for writing.

I was considering getting one for clean sustains, as I already have a Fender Fuzz-Wah I don’t want another fuzzy distortion pedal.
Thanks for the reply, and keep up the wicked videos!
Cool
Look at the Soul Preacher or Black Finger.
I have used both and they are great at clean sustain.

Your version of X-files is far better then the original! I like it better because the sound is more natural then the synths they used – especially great is the rythm delay guitar…It gives me creeps – now I can’t sleep today …
And that Ring Thing thing was also astonishing. I think it’s the most underrated pedal…You lot should really try to show it more…Why on earth it isn’t more popular? It’s far better shifter than Digitech Whammy, amazing ring modulator and it has also some cool modulating effect – great for experimentation…But the whammy function should be first on the list – that would attract everybody, not just EHX-loving guys…
