Did anybody try editing firmware for EHX devices?

I find it a bit bold to be asked to drastically overpay for a 22500 external foot control by EHX, so i am trying to use a Digitech FS2-X instead, which apparently is able to step loops down on its mode and up switches. The down switch has no function (yet

I have a hex editor, but no idea, where to start among the hiroglyphes – in clear text i seem to see only comments.

Any hints are appreciated. Thank you.
