I know this is an Electro-Harmonix forum, but I figured I’d ask anyways. If it’s a problem, feel free to lock this topic.
I was just wondering if any guitar/bass players in these forums have had any experience with Eastwood Guitars? Like how they sound, quality, etc. Specifically, but not limited to, the Airline Twin Tone, Supro Dual Tone, and Town & Country. I’m thinking of maybe getting a new guitar, and I really like these re-issues of the old 50’s and 60’s guitars.
Thanks in advance.

I’ve played on a P-90 Special, Classic 6, Nashville 12, Tuxedo, Dual Tone Airline, and some other solidbody models including the Mandocaster. I used to own a discontinued Savannah for a couple of years as something to fingerpick with.
They are a good little company and I like that they are offering affordable and improved versions of the old classics. As for quality, it’s a so-so effort. They look good and seem to be put together well for an overseas contract. The neck joints are tighter than I’ve seen on some other brand’s multi-thousand dollar models. But they skimp on the finishes and the hardware is rather flimsy. The wiring and electronics are not good, with the exception of the pickups. With all the variety they sport, all the Eastwood pickups are outstanding. I’ve also noticed that every single pot hasn’t been screwed in all the way.
If you are looking for a hollowbody, I’d buy an Ibanez Artcore instead.
Invest in a all new hardware, wiring, and electronics (save the pickups) on a solidbody.March 13, 2009 at 9:08 pm #94470resophonicMemberQuote:I’ve no personal experience, but they look awesome. March 13, 2009 at 9:17 pm #94473PumpkinPiecesMemberI have an Eastwood Hi-Flyer in white. The previous owner installed a dimebag darrell pick up in the bridge (it was wide enough to pick up all the strings). The stock pick ups are super noise, which is good for me. So anywho down to business, it is a straight up punk guitar. No matter what position you get this sound of the clash/white stripes/nirvana no matter what fuzz I pus it through. the guitar’s personality and character break through and each pick up selection has its own sound.
i’ve played the Twin tone and a few others as well, all of them played very well. I highly recommend Eastwood guitars, especially now with Fender upping their prices.

The pickups are unique… ceramic, if I remember right. Find a slight flaw or two and haggle. I’ve found more than a few places that will work with a customer to to some degree so they can move inventory in this poop economy.
Now if you find a Town&Country;Deluxe for $400, you let me know.

If I find a T&C DLX for $400, I’m probably going to buy it

Thanks. Unfortunately the previous owner did a rewire on the controls and I’ve been unable to get a wiring diagram anywhere to restore it. Mike at Eastwood doesn’t have one in his files. I also wish they had gone w/ the individual pickup switches instead of the Fender-style switch.
March 16, 2009 at 4:00 pm #94564babymicrobeParticipantI think they look fantastic and will end up buying one sooner rather than later
