Boredom and too much pedals? Here is an easy mod of the
Double Muff.
I own both, Muff Overdrive and Double Muff. That’s somewhat silly,
because they use same circuits. I wanted to mod the Double Muff,
but i was not able to remove the pcb from the housing.
The unit had a look at me, like it wanted to be modified.
There must be an easy way, i thought. Mike wants me so.
I had a look onto the measuring points of the pcb.
One comes from the first pin of the first pot.
Somewhere on the left, there was another one, easy to reach.
I tried and found a 120pF cap could fit there.
If soldered, the knob of Muff2 affects the character
of the distortion, when Muff2 isn’t engaged!!!
Also the charakter of Muff2 is different to Muff1,
more focused, when both sections are engaged.
If you use Muff1, you can mitigate the distortion
with the disengaged pot of Muff2. Very cool.
Muff1 and Muff2 together have got more power than
before and you realy have to reduce the volume knob
of your guitar about 10%.
It is like Depeche Mode used to try Rock ‘n Roll…
Synthesiser and Overdrive together in a good way.
Very cool to boost a Big Muff Pi too, because
the Double Muff itself reduces the bass response
of the signal, like some treble boosters.
Seems very interesting… any chance of a sound or video sample?
OK – this one

Excuse me, i forgot to show the amp itself,
it is a Marshall JCM 900.
The other pedals used are Bass Big Muff and BBE Tremor.
