Hey. I’m pretty sold on a deluxe memory boy, but I need to know if it’s got any modulation effects. I LOVE my chorus, so I need to know if I should also pick up a chorus pedal. And if so, is the neo clone any good, or is it just a peice of crap? Thanks.

neo clone is good, the nano clone is less than good. and the modulations on the DMB are going to be on the delay signal only, so you might want to pick up a chorus.

Thanks. You know, I noticed that alot of standard EHX pedals come with chorus, like the mistress and memory boy, but the deluxe ones don’t. Still, neo clones are cheap, plus, my dad’s got an old Princeton chorus amp, so when I’m playing through that, I don’t need a chorus pedal. How about the freeze? For what it does, it’s kinda pricy, even though I love the long drones it gives. I know it’s good, but is it worth the $120?

looks like it goes for slightly less than $120; if you wait a few months, you can probably find it used for cheaper. Also, you know the effects loop on the DMB? you can probably get some decent drones by putting a volume pedal in it and fading the delays out to get fewer feedbacks. To me, the freeze would be more like the sustain pedal on a piano- less useful for drones but better for long legato passages.

If I got one, I’d use for both. Thanks for the volume pedal idea. Specific volume pedals that you recommend?

I use a morley lil alligator and a dod fx17 but really any active volume pedal should do the trick. I’d stay away from passives though, despite not taking up a plug on your daisy chain, they’re typically more trouble than they’re worth [treble loss, failure to mute, etc.]

If you don’t like spending too much on the Freeze, you can buy Cathedral – it’s a fantastic reverb + a simple delay + you can do flanging with Flerb mode…And the infinite reverb is very good – it’s not that precise as on the Freeze because you always have reverb on, so it’s more like a frozen reverb, but with Flerb and reverse modes you can achieve really cool sounds…

As with the chorus on DXMB – well it can sound chorusy but it’s not the same…On delay pedals it should make the lo-fi sound of a tape echo…On the DXMB however you’ve got a lot of control with the modulation and you can get really crazy sounds – even synth like tones – out of it…

The DMB does do a chorus effect if you set a low delay and a fairly generous modulation with the triangle LFO. It’s an interesting sound and if you’ve an expression pedal you can vary the modulation speed which gives you this nice, organy sound.

My complaint would be getting the delay time right is difficult as your talking microseconds.Which is why setting the delay to 0, 100% wet and using it as a vibrato unit is also a good option.
