I’ve just bought a Deluxe Memory Man, one of the last of the larger style in stock at my local guitar shop. It’s a brilliant device – I’m really happy with the sounds…BUT…a few times now, the delay effect has ceased for no apparent reason. This happens under the following conditions:

1. The effect is activated
2. The delay knob is at the setting I use most, somewhere between 10 and 1 o’clock
3. Feedback, blend, level etc are all at moderate levels (only chorus/vibrato at zero) – so delay should be audible
4. Delay effect has been audible and functioning normally up to point of failure

So, suddenly, there is no delay effect audible. I turn the delay knob a little to the left or right – nothing. Then I fully rotate the delay knob left and right, and at the extremities there is a scratchy / static type of noise and this seems to reactivate the control, so that when I return the knob to its usual position the delay is functioning normally again.

This happens maybe once or twice in an hour – the rest of the time there is no problem. I did notice that it sometimes happens after I have switched pedals earlier in the chain (e.g. switched overdrives), although I’m not sure if that’s just coincidence.

My chain is Fender Strat > Tuner > Boss NS2 Noise Suppressor >send> Boss CS3 Compressor > Vox Wah > Blackstar HT Valve Dual Overdrive >return to Noise Suppressor > EHX Deluxe Memory Man > Marshall Amp

Anyone got any ideas what the problem might be?

I’m no engineer so I’m not going to start tampering with it myself, and it’s under warranty so I can take it back to the shop (although they have no replacements in stock – bummer!) – just curious if anyone has any ideas about the problem?

Any shared wisdom would be much appreciated.
