Hi, do these knobs come off?I’d like to replace the ‘feedback’ knob with a large rubber knob so I can then use an expression pedal for the modulation. However I cant seem to get the knob off and dont want to damage the pot.Is there a trick to removing these things?
Thanks!September 15, 2010 at 8:31 pm #111437czech-one-2ParticipantOk,this is not a joke! Within 15 minutes of getting my DXMB I broke the feedback pot trying to get the knob off.Fortunately Electro Harmonix fixed my unit even though it was my fault.
Now that I have it back, I still want to control the feedback with a big rubber knob, but I’m sure as hell not going to try and pry the knob off again unless a moderator chimes in with either a tip in removing it or a warning that they are epoxied on or something!
Seriously, they do not budge.September 16, 2010 at 6:46 am #111442Mr.GrimMemberthey slip on like normal knobs, but they are a very very tight fit, that they are attached using a press to get them on, so unfortunately they will be extremely hard to remove!
why not try sum type of slip over rubber cover, on the knob? like MXR does, or make sum thing, like maybe out of a small rubber ball? or wrap the knob in electrical tape or sum thing to make it bigger and more grip.

Yeah, that crossed my mind, but an mxr knob/rubber boot is just too low to turn with your foot without touching the adjacent knobs. The rubber ball idea is intriging, but I cant quit picture that.Maybe a golf ball drilled out to fit snugly over the knob would work?
Do you know if they are regular splined shafts like a boss potentiometer or something else?September 16, 2010 at 5:03 pm #111445electro-melxModeratorQuote:Quote:they slip on like normal knobs, but they are a very very tight fit, that they are attached using a press to get them on, so unfortunately they will be extremely hard to remove!why not try sum type of slip over rubber cover, on the knob? like MXR does, or make sum thing, like maybe out of a small rubber ball? or wrap the knob in electrical tape or sum thing to make it bigger and more grip.

Do you know if they are regular splined shafts like a boss potentiometer or something else?yes they are regular splined shafts.. and you can get them off without breaking the pot, what you really need to do is get something like a small screwdriver under the edge (and maybe a bit of cloth under the driver to protect the finish) and just lift it at one edge a tiny amount, then go to the opposite side and do the same, then move the knob round a little and do the same.. basically what you are doing is loosening it’s grip rather than trying to pull it off.. after a while the knob will loosen, DO NOT try and pull upwards until the knob is loose or the shaft will rip straight out of the pot. I’ve done this loads of times without breaking anything, you just need to take your time.

September 16, 2010 at 6:41 pm #111449czech-one-2ParticipantYou know, the golf ball idea is looking pretty good, having already busted the shaft of the feedback pot once [by gradually prying it off with a flat head] ,and considering the shipping from Europe for repair.I’ve removed hundreds of knobs in my lifetime, but never have I encountered something like this pressed on EH knob.
I’m scared to death to try it again.Maybe I will work up the courage again, but not now cause I need my DXMB!I pity the repair man that has to remove six of these at a time.
August 30, 2017 at 3:45 pm #123111cameronspgParticipantResurrecting an old thread, but I just broke the Feedback pot on my Memory Boy (not Deluxe). I thought I’d been pretty gentle (having read this thread)
I emailed EHX, but they weren’t of much help and told me to use the forums. Does anyone know the value/type of the Feedback pot, as well as how to remove the other knobs without breaking them too, please?
I have also removed knobs from dozens of pedals, and not had this happen.
Thanks for any help
CameronAugust 31, 2017 at 3:16 am #123107EHX STAFFKeymasterThey are press fit and NOT meant to be pulled off. The repair dept can repair this for you at a very low cost.
I would suggest you send it to them as it is fast and cheap.August 31, 2017 at 9:34 am #123108cameronspgParticipantHi,
How much would it cost? I’m in Australia, which means posting it to the States and paying for post back, and then adding the repair fee on top of that. How does the repair department take the knobs off? Do they just break the knobs? It feels like a flawed design…The kicker is that I was only trying to take off the knob so I could measure the pot spline and 3d print scaled down Sovtek knobs for the Green Russian reissue pedal (which I don’t have yet, and if you can’t change the knobs, mightn’t actually buy).
thanks,
