    Hi,

I recently got a Deluxe Memory Boy, it’s fine in bypass mode but when I turn on the effect in any setting I get a very high frequency tone (like feedback) that continues while the delay effect is in the background. I’ve tried using it on it’s own and with different guitars and amps but always the same result. I’ve also tried using different power supplies. I’ve reset all the knobs to zero but it still continues, although it does get worse when you blend in more of the effect, and the depth knob changes the sound of the tone.

I opened up the back and noticed that there were a number of variable resisters, I turned them to see what happened, the tone stopped but then so did the delay effect, might my configuration be wrong?

    Thanks

You’ve broken the cardinal rule: DO NOT TOUCH THE TRIMPOTS

Unless you’ve got an oscilloscope or have some experience with these kinds of pedals you’ll probably need to send it in for realignment.

I thought that might be the case. So I took note of the positions and turned them all back to the same spot. Any idea what the actual problem might be?

The real reason you were probably getting that squeel was from a powering issue. Were you using a power supply with a daisy chain?

No. I used the power supply that came with the pedal and also tried a boss power supply. No daisy chain. I’m in Ireland, any chance that might have an effect what with the 220v?

I bought a brand new Deluxe Memory Boy and it has this problem…the high-pitch whining sound. Is this a defect or an intention “analog delay” sound? It’s not a pleasant sound and I hope that it can be corrected without cost to me since it’s less than a week old :(.

A sound clip of me playing…the whining is highly noticeable at the end.

Analog delays will make that noise. It’s clock noise. It can be nulled out (usually not completely) and usually there is a trimpot to do so. I wouldn’t recommend poking around in there unless you know what you’re doing.

Thanks for the quick reply! I didn’t know that clock noise sounded like that…that sounds more like digital-to-analog conversion or something circuit-related? There’s no rhythmic/clock-like sound to the high freq. even. If it IS clock noise, and this might be a stupid question, is there a reason EHX doesn’t adjust the trimpots to null out the noise more?

It’s likely they did adjust it but it could’ve gotten out of adjustment in shipping.
