Please tell me which would you rather own and why. Which one is better?
June 2, 2009 at 8:41 pm #97259bubmaynardParticipantI can’t decide myself.
June 2, 2009 at 9:07 pm #97261electro-melxModeratorHazarai, simply because it does more stuff that I like (looping/reverse/etc) and it’s cheaper…
June 2, 2009 at 9:28 pm #97263Ned FlandersModeratorI only use delay pedals for noise etc and the SMMH has that down pat.
June 2, 2009 at 10:34 pm #97269cabomanoParticipantI have the smmh and am still thinking about getting an analogue delay. To me, they’re just different effects, and I feel I could have use for both. I miss the way you can get weird noises out of the dmm by playing around with the time knob…

June 3, 2009 at 4:45 am #97286julianModeratorSMMH fits my needs more
I’m more about noise and looping and stuff
June 3, 2009 at 10:51 am #97293BlueSteelParticipantI’d rather get the SMMH just because of the looping feature.

i’m not a fan of the hazarai
June 3, 2009 at 3:43 pm #97297Stoner WizardParticipantHello:
If you have enough money, don’t hesitate: Get both!. They’re not the same anyway and thus, not redundant for use in the same pedal board. If you do this, you can expand a lot the sound palette.
The DMM is more faithful to the “early U2 sound”, but also versatile for more styles while the Hazarai, despite not being analog (impossible due its extended features) is still warm-sounding and you can push it to very experimental sounds (as is the EH-tradition) and lots of sonic posibilities (looping an manipulation) apart the usual echo/delay.
If you do this, place the DMM first and the SMM/H after so you can also create patterns with the DMM and recording into SMM/H looper, or compose complex multi-delay repeats. The only flaw of the SMM/H in my opinion is that there’s no “trails” in any mode, so yo must be careful and fine when you play as the repeats cut abruptly when the effect is disengaged, instead of fading away gently.
That’s what I’d do. In fact, I have some DMM’s and the SMM/H… combine them and you’ll get fantastic results.
Good luck and make a good choice.
Regards from Spain.

June 4, 2009 at 4:06 pm #97328JaypeeMemberI just picked up my first DMM last week, a big box at that. All I can say is WOW! And I still want a Hazarai.
My original intent is to have one of each. It all came down to which I could pick up cheaper. I kept a look out for a deal on either and whichever came in cheaper first I got. Now I hunt for a deal on the Hazarai.
Cruise the scratch n dent section on Musicians Fiend. At least you have recourse with them. If it’s too messed up for you at least you can always send it back. That’s how I’ve picked up most of my EHX stuff. It seems that they are trying to get rid of the big box units so they periodically have them at slashed prices. That’s how I picked mine up…super cheap and the only thing wrong was I had to reassemble the power switch (way easy fix)…no cost of parts or repairs. After that there wasn’t a scratch on it or thing wrong with it. Most of the time somebody buys it and decides it’s not for them and sends it back. Since MF can’t sell it as brand new they scratch n dent it. My XO Worm, big box Polychorus, Bass Micro Synth and big box DMM all came to me this way. All are in great working and cosmetic working order.
I have no doubt I will be completely satisfied with the Hazarai as well.
Hope that helps any.
