I own a big one many years ago and was thinking to switch to one of this (small size, 9v, you know…).
    I think I’ll keep it.

I replaced my XO with the previous version. However, I actually had to open it and adjust the range of the sweep. Now that it’s working as it should (except for the volume drop) I wish I’d tried doing this on the XO. It’s NOT as complicated as it’s made out to be however it will void your warranty. ALWAYS make a tick with a Sharpie so you can set things back if it doesn’t work out. Having it plugged in and using a non-conductive screwdriver or alternative tool will ensure no accidental short circuits or electric shocks while making adjustments. This just goes to show that not every item that leaves the factory is calibrated the same (as they should be!) The old, “Well they’re analog” excuse is just that – an excuse for sub par quality control.

Perhaps sometime in the future I’ll give the XO a try again but tweak it. Mine had so many inconsistencies it was ridiculous.

I’ll keep it, for the old good days :D
I really don’t recommend at all tweak the trimpots.
The previous owner tweaked the trimpots and didn’t mark on it (was a really pain in the ass back this pedal to life).

I have to confess: I’m using a MXR Flanger.
DEM is unique, but the MXR is infinitely flexible.

Yeah a lot of people think that it’s risky making any modifications but there are resources on the net that specify the function of every trimpot inside all models of the DEM except for the new one. As long as the instructions are followed and you can make the adjustments “live” there really aren’t any worries.

    That’s the same instructions/website that I used to re-calibrate :D

Had any problems? Mine really was a piece of cake.

    Not for now.
I repaired the FM switch (it seems the previous owner was a beast), and mod to TBP.
But I hear it different from the demos; I’ll send soon to EHX’s technics to re-calibrate.

I just got one. I didn’t reaslly like the sound at first, I suspected the internal trim settings. I think they are conservative in the settings. I did some research, found info on setting up the oringal electric mistress. Here’s the deal, I think. The top two pots should only be adjusted very slightly, one is controlling voltage, I don’t recall the other. But if you put those out too far, more than a degree or two in either direction. The bottom two are more adjustable. if you adjust too far, self oscillation may occur, so back off if that happens.

Anyway, i used to borrow the late 70s one, in the late 70’s, and always screwed with the internal pots to get a good sound. I’m 100% convinced Gilmour’s was also tweaked. You’ll love this pedal after you get that figured out. one note, I am pretty sure you’ll have to be careful, on my current tweaks, I just noticed that the direct out is actually causing a boost. I haven’t trouble shot it yet so it could have been a cable, but it also may be the voltage. According to the propaganda sheet the direct is straight from input, so this should be impossible, but I don’t know. But in any case, if you only use it with boost or distortion this could be desirable. The best way to use this new pedal is with two amps, both slightly distorted, I’m using the direct out into a little blackstar head, into a V30, the flange out into the FX loop on a Mustang III, Celestion Hot T-100. This combination sounds totally awesome with this pedal, real 3D sound. I strongly considered the MOOER, and may even get one some day, but trust me, this pedal kicks total ass, if you get the internals the way you like them. Use two amps, and the direct out. Good Luck!

Hello! Sorry for the thread necromancy but I wanted to post some information for anyone who comes looking for this topic on the xo version of the pedal as I found a real lack of resources on how to remedy the flange mojo throughout the net.

Pot Information for modifications for more jet flange.
R12 [top left trim pot]: Bias “headroom” (I set mine for 7 o clock).
R34 [bottom left trim pot]: Delay time for the effect signal/doubling (I set mine for 9 o clock)
R13 [bottomr right trim pot]: Flange sweep ( I set mine for 10 o clock)
R15 [top right trim pot]: Flange tone “jet whooasssshhhhh” (I set mine for 12 of clock)

I’m not sure what the reproducibility across different pedals for this is, so use these settings as a guideline and rely on your ears as you make changes.

Adjust these things slowly as it will self oscillate quickly and hoo boy is it loud. Refine as needed to reduce weird clock hiccups.

Set your and rate to 8 o clock and roll in the color knob to flange cityyyyy. The only real drawback is that getting the jet flange results in a noise floor tradeoff even with the EHX adapter. Totally annoying for recording.
