    Hello,

I have a Deluxe Electric Mistress, pot date code 1980. Has the black / shiny silver faceplate and three knobs.

When the unit is hooked up and plugged in, even with the effect switched out, the unit makes a hum / buzz noise… like an AC power noise. It’s not too bad, but it’s more noticeable than with just about all of my other 120V EHX pedals, including a very similar 1979 Deluxe Electric Mistress. The pedal functions fine otherwise and appears bone stock / unmodified.

The noise I’m experiencing would probably be acceptable for most people, especially for live applications, but I’m using these things in a studio where noise is a pretty big concern. It’s still not that terrible, but again, it’s noticeably worse than with all my other EHX AC-powered pedals.

By chance might this be an inherent issue with some early `80’s Deluxe Electric Mistress pedals? Or, might I have some type of common problem with this unit that can be easily remedied? If so, how?

If it’s the power transformer inside that’s causing the noise, is it a big deal to disconnect the transformer and then hook a pigtail to the circuit board so that an external wall-wart type power supply could be plugged in and used? If so, would it be 9V DC?

I really like the sound and behavior of this particular Deluxe Electric Mistress, I’d love to be able to use it in the studio, but the way it is now, the noise is just a tad over the line of acceptability. Hope this can be fixed somehow.

My other Deluxe Electric Mistress is extremely quiet by comparison, but the flanging behavior and tone of that pedal is just a bit less exciting to me.

    Thank you!

I have an Electric Mistress from this period and I have the same problem. I’m wondering if I can modify it to use batteries. That would likely take care of the problem.

Scored a ’78 V1 deluxe electric mistress at a garage sale. I am also having this hum issue, only when the effect is on. When the effect is off my signal sounds normal, maybe slightly colored. Like the OP said, the hum is just enough to be unacceptable. All jacks/wires/connections inside look solid. The hum remains. I tried both active & passive pickup equipped guitars. Same hum. Hopefully someone out there will find this thread and help us out. Thanks!

Hi All, I think you new a recap job on these old units. Consider contacting Howard Davis or your local tech on this job.
