I have had my Deluxe Big Muff for about three years. It has always been on a pedal board mounted to a desk so essentially has only ever been activated by my thumb. Over the past week or so, it has started to fail. The LED comes on but I have to partially press the switch down to properly activate it.
I wondered if it might just need a spray of contact cleaner but thought I should ask for advice before doing so. Any thoughts, please?
Give it a spray with some contact cleaner. If that doesn’t work, it might need replacing. If you’d like to take care of that yourself, here’s a link to purchase a replacement footswitch for the Deluxe Big Muff. https://lovemyswitches.com/3pdt-latched-foot-switch-solder-lugs-blue/ Before ordering, check the ribbon cables, maybe reflow the solder to the cables to ensure the problem is the cable.
Thanks, I have some of those exact items in stock but I wasnt sure whay type EHX used and not knowing if it was the same internal mechanism, I hoped that a squirt of contact cleaner would do the job.
Deoxit is a great contact cleaner. Spray some into the shaft from the top and open the pedal up and spray some on the back of the switch. It will leach in.
Then push the switch about 10 times in a row to work it in.
