From his silky lead style from The Wall to his latest solo album; On An Island. Most of also know he as a huge Big Muff user. Mostly old versions; like the Ram’s Head, The Triangle Knob and the Sovtec Civil War. I think a David Gilmour Big Muff would be amazing! Maybe based on one of the old versions with some of his preferred settings and sounds.
For this pedal, price is not in the question. I would happily pay $400 for one, if it was high quality.
Please tell me what you think. If enough people go on this tpoic, this dream may become a reality!
that sounds like a nice idea, but… they’d have to make a muff with the OD in one box because Gilmour frequently stacked them… can you imagine how weird would it be?
isn’t it better to just buy for example a Civil war muff and then some decent OD?
I know that David stacked his distortions with his overdrives, but I wasn’t suggesting a distortion pedal with overdrive, I just meant the distortion pedal. As you said, it is probably better just to get a Civil War Muff and a descent overdrive pedal, like the Tube Driver. However, Civil War Muffs are hard to come by, and if the DG Muff was based on it then that would be a nice pedal. Maybe it could be a Civil War Muff, with David Gilmour specifications.
i havent seen any ehx artist-endorsement kind of stuff like you see the jeff beck sig. strat and the zack wyld epiphones (love epiphones, but i think these are really dumb). so i dont think they would do it
I see what you are saying, but what about the EVH Phase 90? Or the David Gilmour Strat? Or the Clapton Strat? Just because something is an artist signature model! I personally would love to see a DG Big Muff! It would be great to see EHX honouring the people who use their pedals, and remind some people why they are so good!
I am not saying that they should sell it for $400, I’m just saying I would pay that if I had to, and it if it was worth it. I love David Gilmour, and I love the Big Muff, put them together and you’ve got pure quality. If it were made with high quality components, then I would quite happily pay that.

I would resign my position as admin if EHX released a $400 ‘gilmour’ Big Muff. It would be a sickening cash in.
Who said anything about a 400 muff….? You’d be an idiot to buy it when you can get a byoc and build it yourself for a quarter of the price. But…..how funny would it be “IF” EHX did release an exact copy of and old ramshead or triangle for about 100! Same looks and everything. I guarantee you the ones that have shelled out big bucks for the vintage muffs would bash it and say they sound like shit. That would be so funny and make me happy as hell!!!!
whats this mogwai, ive seen it before but i thought it was a photoshopped joke
It’s a band from Scotland, that Muff was a promotional item for their new album (at the time) ‘Rock Action’
yeah, they’re this post-rock band from scotland… really awesome music and they are one of the superstars of the gendre (if you can use a word superstar talking about underground music styles )
it’s a mystery to me why are they the only one that got their own muff

well like I said it was a promotional item for the album, so I presume a record label or something stumped up the cash .. it was never for sale in shops as far as I know. also (even though some reports will tell you different) I think it’s only a special screen print, so I guess there wasn’t that much cost involved in making them. …. I presume also that Mogwai or their label approached EHX to do it, rather than the other way round.
Off-topic: What (decently priced) overdrives would you recommend to stack with the Big Muff for a gilmouresque sound?
i’ve had disappointing results with tube screamers as the combination just gets too muddy with my setup, but i know people who swear by the ‘BM->TS’ so it may be worth checking one out. also, this site may be of interest.
if ehx were to start issuing artist models, they would have to do an awful lot of artist models… dean ween microsynth, david gilmour electric mistress, j. mascis big muff, the edge DMM, cobain chorus, jack white pog, and the list goes on.
that being said, if they were to release identical issues of the different ’70s muffs (much like mxr with the ’74 phase 90 and the ’76 dynacomp) i would be all over it. actually im sure most everybody would be, although the big muff with tone wicker sounds incredible and apparently the bass big muff is designed pretty similar to the old green sovtek big muff so they may be making a step in the ‘old muff’ direction anyways.
