Hi everyone. Does anyone know where I can get raplacement pots for an older Big Muff? I need either D-shaft or solid-shaft, but I can’t find anything with the long lugs on them. Also, I’m not sure what values I need, liner/audio taper, etc. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Ron, do you have a source for those? I’ve been looking for some replacement knobs for my old Big Muff and have run into a brick wall as far as those for D-shaft pots.
April 5, 2009 at 7:40 pm #95312The EH ManModeratorNo, I don’t really have a source. I just watch around for old CTS pots that have the same shaft and the same open back design, buy them, and remove the shaft assemblies for replacing in vintage EH pedals. I should just contact CTS about buying a quantity of shafts.
April 5, 2009 at 11:31 pm #95314lordviper63MemberThanks for the replies. I should make it more clear that when I say “older”, I mean an older reissue. I think I got mine around 2000 and it had D-shaft pots and pointer knobs. One of the lugs on the volume pot broke, so I need to replace the whole thing. Would these work?

I have set-screw pointer knobs already, so I figured I could just change the whole set. I don’t need vintage pots or anything like that; I just want something equal in quality to whatever is in there already. Thanks guys.

What pedal is it?

Its just a regular Big Muff Pi. My multimeter is telling me I have 100k pots, and I’m just guessing they’re linear taper.
April 13, 2009 at 4:35 am #95590lordviper63MemberLemme ask this instead…does anyone know where I can find the regular split-shaft, 100K pots electro-harmonix uses in NYC Big Muffs? The ones they use now are fine, cause my set-screw knobs will work with splined shafts anyways. Thanks.
November 17, 2009 at 8:15 pm #103851devnulljpParticipanthey, I need some pots for my ram’s heads — I have one with three XM2184 / 100k linear pots that look original.
Another with alpha replacements that are toast — different values — some 10 k others 100k.
They should all be 100k linear right?
Got a good source?December 16, 2010 at 6:28 pm #113132djmhiratzkaMemberI have a relatively new black Russian BMP (2006), and the pots are shot, they were super scratchy and when I tried to clean them the posts pulled completely out of the pot and I can’t get them back in. I would like to replace all 3 with something high quality (like my Fulltone ’69 fuzz, great build quality!), I don’t care if it means I need to get new knobs for it. I’m going for tone, not looks… Any ideas where to source really high quality pots that will fit into this model? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Just get the pots with the right tapers and values from anywhere, most places will stock the same ‘Alpha’ Brand pots, they’re used in basically every pedal, from cheap to boutique, even Fulltone.
They’re mechanical, much like the foot switches and as such, tend to go bad as they are worked, however something can be said for not having them board mounted, but nothing related to the issue you discovered, it was just poor luck
Fulltone would use these – http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=555
Smallbear also stock new knobs (I’m assuming you’re located in the U.S)Hope that helps.

I realize this is an old post but I do have a broken shaft on a vintage rams head big muff from the mid 70’s. I don’t see an option on how to send you a PM but wonder if these shafts are still available. Thanks!
