    I use all EHX pedals except for my wah and volume. I’m having statiic gurgling sound coming out of my amp (tube) when using my effects. It’s really bad when using my Holy Stain Fuzz setting with my Octave Multiplexer. The amp doesn’t make the sound without effects plugged in, and the sound goes away if I run the effects from a 9v battery instead of a wall wart. I’ve tried the 9.6v warts that come with the pedals, some standard 9V Boss type warts, and the kind with interchangeable tips. So at this point I’ve isolated the problem to being dirty power from my outlet. I bought a Monster Powercenter 200 power conditioner but it didn’t help. I’m thinking I may have to go with a Online type Uninterrubtable Power Supply (UPS) that supplies power from the batteries and uses the AC outlet to keep the batteries charged instead of using the wall outlet for power. These units are pretty expensive so I wanted to see if anybody had any other suggestions, or if anybody has resolved a similar problem. I want to solve the problem at the root rather than using a noise gate in my loop.

    Now I’m completely stumped. I bought a battery backup, charged it, unplugged it from the wall, and ran my amp and 2 pedals completley off of the batteries and I still have the noise problem. So it’s not my houses power that’s causing it. Any help?

    Well I resolved my problem. I tore my entire board apart and hooked up each pedal one by one. Come to find out, the Metal Muff and Octave Multiplexer both require the 9.6v ac adapter or they will make tons of noise. All my other EHX pedals worked fine with the standard 9v wall warts. The Clone Theory did get a little noisier using the 9v but not much. Did some adapter rearranging and all is well now. I’m ordering 9.6v adapters for the rest of my EHX pedals just to be completely noise free.

    Pedals setup:
    Morley Volume 9v
    Dunlop Cry Baby Wah 9v
    Octave Multiplexer 9.6v
    Metal Muff 9.6v
    Freeze 9v
    Holy Stain 9v
    Clone Theory 9v
    Memory Toy 9v
    Nano Mistress 9v

    Hope this helps someone else.

    something that did it for me was taking a wire, touch it to and tape it to any metal in my rig (metal chassis, 1/4″ metal cable) and the other end in the ground of an outlet. made it go from really loud buzz to nothing but guitar. try it out but make sure to put it in the ground on the outlet. if you hit hot, it could cause alot of problems

    Hey man. Thanks for the tip. I was able to fix my problem already though. My Metal Muff and Octave Multiplexer were the problems, they required using the EHX 9.6v vs the regular 9v, they both made a ton of noise using just a 9v adapter.

    just a possible alternative to, you know, sticking wires into outlets:
    on most homes/residences in the US, the plumbing pipes are connected to the ground wire for the house. Use that rather than sticking wires in outlets – less chance of something shifting/arcing etc.

    Maybe you should try a regulated power source for your rigg? (a regulated power source is not as crappy as having a single standard 9 volt boss power block, it regulates the power the pedal uses so the power will be more stabile).
