This thing looks so sweet and the presets are right up my alley. I also already have a moog ep-2
Right now my signal chain is
LP studio > boss tu2 > ehx screaming bird > cry baby > qtron+ > boss cs2 > boss bd-2 (keeley phat) > big muff 4 germanium > ernie ball volume > fender hot rod 3
effects loop > memory boy > boss dd-20 > amp
I’ve read about the many usages of the Ring Think and in order of my priority of usage:
1. Whammy
2. Up/Down octave
3. Up/Down Octave detuned
4. Ring Mod tones
5. Chorus/Trem (already can do this with my delays)
That being said would putting the Ring Thing in front of my crybaby be my best bet? This pedal seems so versatile it seems hard to decide where it should go.
Has anyone used something like a killswitch or a switchblade to effectively put the ring thing in 2 different locations?
I’m more of a recorder/sound design type than a gigger, but I still find it difficult to have static positions for pedals. Putting it after the Q-Trong could be interesting, that said!
I’ve always been tempted by a Ring Thing, but I decided that since I’m doing a degree I might aswell design and build my own Ring Modulator (with some wacky/interesting features even in comparison with the Ring Thing)! If I’m still not happy with it I’ll just take my degree and spoil myself with the Real McCoy.
I know this reply is late as hell, but the Ring Thing sounds absolutely amazing in the effects loop of my amp. I’ve had it for about a year and only just tried it in the loop (I guess I’ll have to buy a few more 6m leads…) and it sounds so much better I can’t even explain. Bass notes for any octave setting are much more crisp and clear… none of the settings seem muffled or ‘restricted’ in any way.
My enthusiasm comes from the fact that I play in a guitar/drums duo, so this kind of tone difference is extremely important to me.
Just try it out!
