Congrats Mr. Matthews for being inducted to the Vintage Guitar Magazine’s Hall of Fame.Mike was up against some legendary competition in the category for technical innovation. It’s no surprise to me that he won as he was the first person to produce top quality and innovative effects for a price much lower than any of his competitors.I bought my first Electro-Harmonix pedal-A Big Muff Pi-around 1970 and it’s bullet proof as I’m still using it after years and years of gigging, jamming etc.I also have other vintage E-H pedals and they still work as they did when they were new.I have pampered my Electric Mistress which I bought when the first orders were shipped out so it’s definitely one of the earliest made. The Mistress is still going strong and hardly has one scratch on it despite being almost 40 years old.
Mike Matthews made a huge impact on the effects market by producing the most innovative, sturdy and yet cheap effects available back then and is still doing so today. He is still sharp as a tack and coming up with brilliant ideas that no other effects makers could ever think up.For his dedication, work ethic and brilliance he really has earned this award.

– Emerged during the late 60s making waves in Psychedelic Rock
– Took some provocative photos in the early 70s (Freedom Amp?)
– Made phasers funky and smooth circa 1975
– Pioneered, innovated, and created some of the most cutting edge art throughout the 70s
– Hit a major peak from about 1977 – 1980 inventing some of the weirdest and most forward-thinking sounds that musicians of all ages would still seek out 40 years later
– Temporarily lost the way after 1983
– Revived and reinvented themselves again in the mid 90s
– Proved themselves legendary in the 2000s while all generations, young and old, still buy their stuff
– Can look back on 40+ years of innovation history and say, “I’ve always pretty much done it my way, but now I’m going to release some really crazy stuff just because I feel like it!”
– Has always worked with an impeccable and talented teamCongratulations to one of the Great Masters of Sound Synthesis Innovation!
