I’d like to see a good, comprehensive company history. There’s a Wikipedia article but frankly it omits a lot. I know that there have been major ups and also downs over the years.
I’ve encountered the company, and Mike, at various stages. I remember the Hall of Science on 48th St., for example. That was really wierd. Did anybody document your ‘led art’ from that time?
I also remember when the construction of EHX pedals was an open joke. Solder-blob city. When I bought my first Electric Mistress, my friend said “Enjoy it for the next year, because it won’t work longer than that.” He was right. History isn’t always pretty, but it’s important. I was also a designer at Lexicon when Mike scooped the features of my PCM42 at about 1/8 the price. Damn!
Then I was an editor at Electronic Musician magazine when EHX was officially defunct and Mike reduced to pedaling an optical swept filter under a different company name in a 10×10 booth at the back of NAMM. To tell the truth, he looked totally lewd with that cable hanging out of his mouth, and his box only worked in good lighting….
The company’s revival is awesome and there’s got to be a great story there too. VEry curious about the vacuum tubes story. You really should collect what info you can while it’s still available. I’d be happy to help. I’m a good editor and writer, as testified by magazines and books who’ve been willing to pay me. Let me know if I can help out.
Oh, and please do keep on truckin’. You guys are an inspiration.
