Hi, I recently brought a clone theory, unfortunately when its turned on it creates a huge amount of hiss, so much that your can clearly hear it over the music I am playing. I was wondering if there was any advise on how to reduce this or whether you think there may be a problem with the pedal itself. I have already tried different cables amps and batteries.
ThanksAugust 22, 2009 at 1:30 pm #100849BlueSteelParticipantI think thats normal, because i’ve read reviews of it, and like all of them complain about the hiss, and i don’t know if theres any way to get rid of it.
I’ve also noticed that my flanger hoax hisses sometimes and it bothers me

Fuck.
I don’t understand how they’d even consider marketing a pedal as noisy as this thing is.
I really hope there’s a fix, cuz without the hiss the pedal would be great.
If there isn’t a fix, EHX may have lost me.

The pedal was designed to have some edge to it and that brings up the noise factor.
You can double the signal to noise issue by running a hotter signal through it.
in other words the noise stays the same but the signal is stronger making the noise lower in the mix.
Its what I do.
You can boost the input signal with a LP-1 or a compressor that has a volume control.
The pedal will take a signal much louder before distorting.
Analog delay pedals are very often noisy or hissy.
Its the way it is, its the science and why most units now are digital.Hope that helps its a great sounding chorus!

Thanks for the response. Not looking for icy-clean digital and have had a lot of analog pedals, but this one just seems excessive to me.
I’ll see what I can do with you advice and see if I can get the hiss down to a level that is reasonable.
Have a great holiday!

Give it a try.
If does not work get something that works for you.
All set ups are different and each one requires different things to make it work.
Life is to short to not make your sound what it should be to your ears.
Never be satisfied with anything that does not inspire you to play.
The final judge is YOU and not what is posted on the internet or in magazines.
We as guitar players have so many options today its crazy!Have a great holiday season and play great.
