When i turn on the pedal there is a hiss that makes it hard to use this pedal when
    i play quiet passages.

EHX repair department says this is a normal function of the pedal, but i have heard feedback to the contrary… i am unsure what this pedal’s natural state is.

    thanks

The Micropog is one of the quietest pedals I’ve used. What else is plugged in? Is it on its own power supply or a daisy chain?

by itself, using the power supply that comes with the micro pog.
the sound is consistent across numerous setups i’ve tried.

airy hiss like a punctured tire.

EHX repair dept says its a normal ‘noise floor’
but i cant use it for recording or quieter live applications.

They were kind enough to send me a new pedal but the new one makes the same sound.

can i eliminate it with a noise filter pedal like the rocktron?

odd, I haven’t owned one for nearly a year but I don’t recall mine making any kind of unwanted noise.

could it be that there’s noise in the signal chain prior to the Micro POG and the Micro POG is octaving the noise, making it seem louder?

My Micro Pog produces the same hiss all by itself going into the amp.
I am certain this is not a guitar, amp, cables or power issue.
I went to a music store and tried it in their rigs, but the sound is still present, at a lower volume than the effect, but certainly noticeable.
I’ve read reviews about the original pog
    claiming it was “noisy”.
    What about the Micro Pog?

I wish I knew what a proper functioning unit sounded like,
and the repair guys did say they sent me a new one,
but it hisses too. It was just hard to believe that the guys in the EHX design dept would think that
this amount of noise wouldn’t present a problem to people using the pedal. So that’s why i thought there must be something wrong with it.

Yes, i was wondering too if the rocktron hush pedal would take care of the hissing.

    thanks

have you ever played through the RI clone theory? what you’re describing sounds exactly like the hiss that thing makes, but honestly my micropog never hissed like that.

Do you use anything like noise suppression to get a handle on the hiss?

I would have it checked out if I was you. Maybe EHX are saying that the noise they refer to is the very low sound everybody else is saying is normal. It sounds like something is not quite right there

I actually sent the pedal back to them for re-repair after it arrived the first time.
I mentioned that since the repair, the pedal hisses. They said the hiss wasn’t out of the ordinary.
    What can I do?

Without a brand new pedal to test it against,
How can I continue to tell the manufacturer of the pedal that something is wrong?
It’s just that it’s loud enough to be a big distraction, and at $200+
if this is supposed to be normal functioning, I can’t say it would be worthwhile to spend for it.

It doesn’t make sense. I have other EHX pedals, and they are just fine.
I posted recently on the technical questions/help forum; there’s a sound recording of the now famous (to me) hiss.

If the micro pog is on a daisy chain power supply, try using a virtual battery before the micro pog. This will isolate the power source from other pedals.

Have you tried another Micro POG and had the same result?

I’ve had mine a couple of years, and have never experienced what you describe, and I run a fairly big board (12+/- pedals and a small mixing board) I’ve even put the pedal on a mixer fx loop where several channels were sending signal to it simultaneously, with no hiss (at least none that couldn’t be accounted for from some other source:) ).
