Hi, I have a quick question about the Holier Grail. I just picked one up for very cheap but it didn’t come with the power supply. The instructions state the adapter uses 18vdc 500ma. I have a reverse double ended 18/24v adapter for my PP2, but nothing is working. Does anyone know if the PP2+ is capable of powering this pedal? Or should I just order the ehx adapter from analogman?

    Thanks.

The PP2+ is only capable of supplying 250ma on the high current outputs. You’ll have to use the original adapter or a higher current supplying power source.

Not ripping on you or anything but really, you should be able to look up the specs of your own equipment. I found that info on Voodoo Lab’s site in less than 30 secs.

Yeah I found the specs, but I thought it could ‘double’ the 250ma to 500ma if I used 2 outputs together. I just wanted confirmation from you guys before I shell out $20 for an adapter :(. Anyway, thanks for the quick response.

You might be able to do that. I don’t know how much actual current the Holier Grail draws, but it might be too close to 500mA for comfort.

You should be able to do it with a Y adapter cable that Voodoo Labs sells for 18/24v pedals.

Try it. Giving a pedal too little current isn’t going to hurt it.

I’ve often found that pedals don’t actually need nearly as much current as their wall-wart supplies. For example, my HOG runs fine off of 250ma.

    Thanks for the reply, Julian.

So I ordered a 18V DC 500ma EHX adapter off ebay and got it in the mail today. I plugged everything in…and no lights are coming on, no signal, nothing. I opened the back of the pedal and everything seems normal, but I’m horrible with diagnosing problems.

What could I do to remedy the problem without sending it in for repair? I guess the price I paid ($20) was too good to be true :(

update: bypass signal DOES work, but when the pedal is activated there is no signal. No lights are on either.

I’m wondering if it was possibly hooked up to the wrong polarity and burned out a part.

Open it up and look inside. It could also be a loose wire. Or if something is burnt out, you can recognize which part needs to be replaced.

I opened up the pedal but I don’t see any cracked resistors or burned out parts. Can anyone direct me which parts are common problems with this pedal? Thanks,

That’s probably why you got it so cheap.

I can’t see anything wrong in the pics. You should take it to a tech for repair. Even if it costs you $50 to fix it that’s still a lot less than the pedal cost new.
